First, let's get the elephant in the room out of the way... I'm aware DOA6 is far from the most popular fighting game in the current market, and has suffered a lot, even if much of it is Koei Tecmo's own doing:

A rocky launch with no player lobbies at the start, expensive season passes, overly negative press, and one particularly bad DLC practice that was universally despised by fans and non-fans alike-- the infamous paid hair color DLC scandal which particularly screwed over console users.

And to be fair, all these factors are valid reasons why one would be hesitant to give the game a chance. In spite of all this, I still enjoyed the core game of DOA6 at the end of the day, even if certain aspects of the gameplay like the Break Gauge system feel like a step backwards to (understandably) appeal to a more casual crowd. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the game personally, but it is something to consider.

And let's be real, it's not the end of the world simply because the expensive season passes are there. You don't have to buy those expensive season passes if you don't want to! And if you're like me and want more matchup knowledge, the DLC characters are the only things worth buying as they directly affect the gameplay.

So why overreact to the option of buying a season pass full of mostly costumes that have no impact to the gameplay whatsoever? It's still optional at the end of the day. Simply buy the DLC characters and keep it moving. If a lot more people had this mindset, I think Koei Tecmo would've got the message that the season passes were not helping by now. Alas, we'll never know at this point, as the player base dwindled massively.

That being said, let's move on to the positives. Dead or Alive 6 as a core game on the PC is hands down the most enjoyable version to play long after the game's launch, and definitely one of the must visually stunning fighting games out there currently. With the least amount of input lag, more graphics customization than what the consoles can offer (the closest of these being the Xbox Series X), automatic optimization for online play, and a thriving, dedicated modding community that negates whatever gripes I had for the costume DLC to begin with (as well as the lack of stage options locked behind story mode), this is a fighting game I can personally enjoy for years to come, or at least until the next DOA fighting game is out. It also helps that I have a handful of chill friends in the community to play with, both old and new.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to improving my Christie. There is much I still have to learn.
