It's a good idea, and would be the best thing to come from steam/valve since steam its self. However, There is a big problems that need to be overcome.

First off there is a big issue with the audio and it not working nearly 50% of the time i turn on my device, and connect either works right off the bat, or there is a 20-30 min dance between my TV and my computer trying to find out what thing needs to be done this time for audio to work properly.

Second, nearly steam updates constantly. the steam platform updates constantly. This doesnt relaunch after the update happens when you're streaming from the steam link. So then you gotta get back up and go to the computer and relaunch steam. When steam launches the audio issue may or may not come back.

Third, There is a problem with the stream its self dropping out or interacting with steam in a way it doesnt like and killing the steam program all together when playing games. This starts the dance all over again.

TL:DR - Plagued by audio problems with no solution. daily steam updates cause issue, and then headache. Steam doesn't even like to stream to the link, and crashes in the middle of games.

The No recomendation comes with a caveat... If steam were to fix the issue with the above 100% it would be amazing. playing games on my 65 inch TV on a big comfy couch sounds amazing. But at the moment my steam link only servers as a way to watch HBO on sunday nights when game of thrones is on...
