A very fun time sink that will leave you craving more. Highly addictive gameplay, although the experience is rather short.
Graphics are serviceable with nice colour and gore effects and it'll run smoothly on a potato.

Spent 2 hours getting stuff and building a base only for some screaming 6 year old to shoot our door down and murder us in about 4 seconds. That's all rust is these days. Loved it years ago, not so much now.

The game has gotten a lot better since "release" as they call it, but still has a long way to go before it's ready for that label.

The game legit just keeps getting worse. Just don't bother. If you haven't already been playing for years, the devs and the playerbase have no intention of letting you get an ounce of enjoyment. If you have been playing for years like myself, the devs and the playerbase still have no intention of letting you have any fun, but you'll get a moment of fun once a year.

Fallout 4 is an odd one. It's a good game in it's own right, but a good Fallout game it is not...

So I start up the game for the first time and create my character having already planned out who they were going to be and what their motives were. Then I noticed the game took my plans and threw them out the window as I was stuck being the overly heroic parent that was on a quest to find his/her son. This is when the alarm bells started ringing.

I played a good deal of that playthrough, but got bored of the character I was playing. So i try again, I start a new game and make a character I had planned to be a stealthy bad ass that used snipers and silenced guns. As soon as I started and wandered down to concord and got my power armour and sh*t I realised this character was headed in the exact same direction as my last one and I had no impact on what happened. I can't tell the minute men to go stuff themselves, I have to join them if I want to progress the story, ok... Whatever. So then I'm leveling up to get the perks I want for this character then I realise that this character plays exactly the same as the last one because the skill system is gone and you can just get all the perks in one playthrough anyway.

So yeah, there's no way to create a unique character or experience anymore... This is the first bethesda "RPG" I've had to this problem with. They missed the mark BIG TIME. For each new addition they removed 2 others. The game now just feels like a bland first person shooter in a Fallout esque world. I did enjoy building settlements and all that other ballocks though, that's pretty much all you can do differently with a new character each time.

TL;DR Cannot create unique characters and every playthrough is the same. You have no real freedom of choice.

Personal Rating? hmm I'll give my ratings for all of the Fallout games to illustrate where this one stands:

Fallout 1 = 9/10

Fallout 2 = 8/10

Fallout 3 = 8/10

Fallout New Vegas = 9/10

Fallout 4 = 6/10

EDIT: It would seem they have fixed the issues I was experiencing. This may not be true for all that had similar problems, but it has worked for me. I have updated my review with a recommendation as the game is very fun.

Cannot reccomend this game at present. I have an Asus Strix GTX 970 graphics card, an AMD FX 8350 CPU, 8gb 1600MHz RAM and a standard WD 7200RPM HDD. This game is almost unplayable. I usually have a frame rate of 70+ on ultra settings 1080p when just walking around but the minute I get in a fast car the FPS is all over the place, from 70-47-53-32 and so on. I experience similar very noticable frame drops when there are big explosions in an area or if I'm flying around with the wingsuit. The moment any action starts at all you will notice a frame rate hit, and considering this is solely an ACTION game, this is inexcusable. Do not buy until there is a patch. I will change this review if I ever notice that they have fixed this issue.

Great game, I don't get why so many reviewers find it mediocore. Guess it just came out at a bad time with metal gear solid 5 competing with it.
