The game starts off difficult with you being unable to understand the intricacies of the game. Slowly however through multiple runs you will see things coming together and begin to value the mechanics of Spelunky. This game is in my opinion very close to perfection.

As a fan of previous Behemoth games like Castle Crashers and Battle Block Theater, I decided to pull the trigger and purchase Pit People in early access in hopes that the game would live up to the experiences I had when playing the previously mentioned games.

I purchased this game nearly a year ago. At the time the game was enjoyable, new, fresh, but its problems came to light after nearly an hour of playtime. There was no depth to the game plain and simple. I had hoped that development through early access would improve conditions, but now nearly a year after my purchase the game is fully released and the problems that it had in early access still plague it to this day.

The battle mechanics that you experience in the tutorial levels will be the same that you encouter throughout the game. You move your characters, end your turn, deal damage, tank damage, rinse and repeat ALL GAME LONG. The only thing you control in battle is where you position your units and even that mechanic is surrounded with RNG as you cannot target enemies, your units simply roll on which units they will attack. Your units will level a lot as you play and there is no significant difference between a level 1 unit and a level 100 unit. Both will deal roughly the same damage and have the same HP. Unless you are trying to collect every item in game, there is no sense of progress.

Sure there are many unlocks and different unit types to control that add some levels of uniqueness to each battle, but the vast majority, I'm talking 85% of all items are simply cosmetic and offer nothing new.

The majority of my in-game hours came from the multiplayer versus mode the game has. I was hoping for this "Strategy" and "Turn-Based Combat" game to actually offer some options to outplay your opponent. To my dissapointment multiplayer is as lackluster as singleplayer. There are zero ways to outplay your oppenent other than them moving their units close to yours and giving you the opportunity to hit them first. With the lack of targetting control and the RNG involved in attacking units, the multiplayer rounds became as stale as singleplayer.

I waited for the game to come out of early access in hopes that these problems would be addressed by the developer. Sadly I was greeted with more useless cosmeetic items and rushed cutscenes. Looks like I wont be touching this game again.

DO NOT make the same mistakes that I made. DO NOT purchase early access games even if you liked the developers previous games. I know that I certainly will never purchase an early access game after this experience.
