(: I love this game! A true indie game master piece. Beyond worth the small price, and even well worth it at full price. Especially if you have friends to play this with on the weekends, you will have a absolute blast playing this game. Really is a true gem. Is it perfect, no not by any means. Will you absolutely love it! HECK YES.

Updated my review as of January 17, 2023. I haven't played the sun temple DLC but i finally beat the game. At first the game is just wonderful. It's super fun with tiny hiccups here and there. The game has changed a lot since I last made my review many years ago. There used to be snake NPCS that attacked you. I couldn't find any of those in the main game (maybe they are in the sun temple DLC?). I really REALLY want to give this game a thumbs up. It frustrates me I can't. It goes really fun and then the later levels it just isn't. At first it's all about killing mobs and navigating through the dungeon, finding secrets. It's pretty cool and there are upgrades and progression to it. Several different classes to play as so it's great. There are only 4 acts but those can take you a while to beat, which is what brings me to the point below.

I have to give this game a thumbs down because of specific reasons. Navigating is a nightmare, even with using the the button "tab" as a mini map. I found myself lost over, and over, and over, and over again, navigating the same corridors so repetively without knowing where the heck i needed to go. That was no fun at all, it was frustrating. Not to mention secrets (yes i know they are supposed to be secrets) but it's so easy to miss a single button with tons of mobs chasing you down. Mob's aren't the problem though, what the real problem is the traps in this game. THE TRAPS SUCK!!!! I found myself getting stuck in these tiny spaces with no escape whatsoever. If a enemy mob steps on a trap it activates, and these tiny little pixels they stand on can keep the trap going non stop, you can't get in range to kill the mob, and then you're either killed, or even trapped from progressing (thankfully i wasn't stopped from progressing) but I died numerous amounts of times from being trapped. Too add fuel to the fire, if you are in a mass amount of enemies running around trying to kill mobs, the mobs will cover the traps and you won't know if you stepped on one or not. If you do they are lightning fast and insta kill you. If you're in a room with tons of spawners too more minions spawn. Ranged units fire at you, minions rush you and you can't keep up with anything going on. Then before you know if running around a trap activates due ot the swarms of npcs thaat run around either you activate it or they do and the traps insta kill you. The mini bosses are tougher than the actual bosses, and when you die it's usualy not to mobs, but insta kill traps. The traps can be frustratingly hard to see too, and even after you cleared an area - you get lost. This makes you traverse the map again to explore, and oh boy was this a nightmare. You step on a tile thinking your safe, then BAM. A trap activates because you stepped on it's line of fire without realizing it. Then you're dead. The minibosses can instakill you or spam you into these frustratingly annoying traps too with spams of minions, and the minibosses are overpowered. They can kill you instantly with ease. The bosses themselves? They aren't even all that hard, minus the dragon. And why was the dragon so hard - because it spawns 2 overpowered minibosses in it's final stage that can instakill you. One other thing which is very annoying. Some of the enemies are ranged units, mages and rangers a like. Lots can spawn from mob spawnrs too - but they are super annoying if they get next to traps. So not only do you have to worry about insta-kill traps, but then the mages can lock onto you and they're homing attacks - if you get in a tight spot you literally cannot progress without dying multiple times or taking heavy damage. At times you get at stuck positions too where you can't do anything (one spot i died 7 times due to the mages camping a spot and being trapped against t he spike shooter traps). It's not fun, it's frustrating, and annoying.

Here's the kicker to all of this dying. If you die too guess what? You have to restart at the last checkpoint you were at. Meaning if you died a far ways back - then you have to run all of the way back to where you were. Navigating is a nightmare! Have fun with that! Don't forget the overpowered traps that are extremely hard to see that can instakill you on your way back. If you die to them you have to run the same distance again. Plus even if you get past that, you'll probably run into the same annoying traps that killed you in the first place (or overpowered minibosses). So if you don't remember the path back you get lost and you have to traverse the maze like a chicken with it's head cut off.

To top it off there's no real ending. There is an alternative ending which is considered the best ending. But it doesn't matter because it just takes you to the main menu screen - unless you do the alternative ending. If you do the alternative ending then you run through a secret passage. Side note when I was navigating through the game I found sections where i was like how do i get to these areas!?! Turns out that was an escape route for the secret ending, but when playing the acts normally you're thinking oh this must be a secret area I can somehow get to but can't. So then you're stuck for a signficant amount of time trying to figure out how you get to the secret areas - in which you actually can't. It would've been nice to completely make these out of the view all together to avoid confusion when trying to look for the actual secrets when playing the game, but no they are in your sight so you think you cant get to them but you can't. On the 'good' ending (where you get all the planks) all of the guys disappeared too. Where they killed, or did they run off without you (you'd assume they ran off) but you'll never know. Just brings you back to the title screen either way.

TLDR -
This review is for the main game only. - Haven't tried the DLC.
It's fun at first but then the further you go in, it loses it's touch completely. More fun with others, but if you're playing solo I can't recommend it.

Navigating sucks, traps and minibosses are OP (especially traps!). Mobs can stand on pixels activating traps and stop dead in their tracks. You can't kill them. Skipping one section of a secret (missing a button) has you running circles over and over again trying to find what you missed (taking beyond too long with no clues whatsoever if your near) ,unsatisfying ending as it just brings you to the title screen.

Thoughts for improvement?:
Add a second minimap one for zooming out greatly and one for the current one. NERF TRAPS!!! Nerf minibosses from instakilling and damage. Buff bosses, but don't make their attacks cheap shot kills (that's how they killed me was cheap shot moves ever time) - not general gamplay mechanics. Make things more visible like trap lines that fire at you and limit their distance too. Maybe even add a compass you find after activating the boss door that appears right after you activate the red switch. The compass would navigate you to the secrets or giving large blue circles on the minimap - the secret is in this area but we can't tell you where exactly (at least for the planks maybe??) - Would also help to have navigation on where to go to even activate the boss key's door.

It saddens me I have to complain about the game so much. The art style, the classes, the gaemplay for kiling mobs, the progression, and even having bosses and minibosses is so much fun. I love this style of game so much too, I wish there was more of them on steam in general. The concept and everything is amazing hence my original thumbs up but after beating it I just can't recommend it.

There's lots of potential with this game but the cheapshots in this game and poor navigation just make it too frustrating. You'll have tons of fun at first but then you won't. It's the horse meme looks amazing at first highly detailed then turns into a stick figure of a horse at the end.

If I could have my time back I would. Can't recommend that's my review.
