Love the game but its just WAY too buggy to recommend. From invisible walls that you bump into every few minutes when walking animals, to animals getting soft locked and refusing to move or be interacted with until you reload the game, its just depressing. Achievements are broken and have been getting fixed for over a year, some are fixed, ill give them that, but there is still at least 4 broken ones that i know for now with the progress i have in the game. I want to be positive about this game but majority of people wont have patience to reload the game every time something breaks which happens fairly often. And now i see they are working on animal shelter 2 while this one is just riddled with bugs..

Dont download, the game is dead. Average player count is gradually going down (AS, EU and NA servers combined have 393 players at the moment), last time we heard from devs was in October 2021 when they announced that they wont be working on the game anymore. There is a possibility to play training mode where you can have a "normal" game against bots only, so if you just wanna shoot some without the fear of dying, go for it.

After playing for over 400 hours, I'm not sure how I feel about this game.
I'm disappointed with the lack of transparency from BHVR. I don't feel like they are listening to their community nor being honest. There's always new issues after every dlc yet they keep pushing them one after another. They tweet that they have zero relations with NFT and a week later you see a pic of pinhead rocking sunglasses and face tattoos (keep in mind, I'm not trying to flame them for having relations with NFT, just the fact that they did say a WEEK before that they had NOTHING to do with it). There's an issue with people getting DDoSed and DBD manages to address it only after a week.
If you go to DBD twitter or tune in to one of their streams, you will see their own community trolling, writing toxic messages, asking for s*x to be added to the game (come on guys, you gotta be more creative than that), complaining about everything. I'm not sure if there is a way to "fix" such a broken relationship between developer/provider and consumer. Maybe it's just a small number of people that have problems with the game, but they sure are very vocal about it.
Post-game chat won’t give you wholesome feelings either most of the time. Other players will wish some diseases/death upon you, you will find out what your mom did last night and you will see a lot of russian gibberish which is extremely rarely meant in a nice way.

Dead by Daylight itself.. Well, again, I’m not sure if I like it or not. It’s like smoking, you know it’s bad but it’s addicting. Let me explain:
People play games for entertainment, to relax, to feel like they are achieving something. And DBD is perfect for that. You will have to learn a decent amount of things before you can play comfortably. It’s not a game you just pick up and get good after a few hours. You will have to learn to read behavior, looping techniques, what items do what, what addons/perks to use. It’s a lot of information and you definitely can play without having to know them all, but for people who like to master games, this is perfect, because after having a good game you will want more since it gives you “ha, I did it, I f*cking did it” moment. You will actually feel the progress you made.
The bad part is, sometimes you won’t feel entertained. You will have bad games.
4 months ago, BHVR implemented skill based matchmaking. Supposedly, they worked on it for over a year (from what I heard), it was tested before and it flopped hard. It’s an invisible rank that increases or decreases depending on *drum rolls please* how many kills you get as a killer or if you escape as a survivor. That's it. That’s what they consider skill. That means, if you loop the killer the entire game and die afterwards on a first hook, your invisible rank decreases. And what do you think that teammate that hid in lockers 70% of the game but escaped gets? Yes, an increase.
Also, now that this information is out, playing as a killer, you will see a lot of people trying to lower their rank by killing themselves on a first hook or just waiting for the end game collapse to end and be killed by the entity. Don't worry, as a survivor you will also get them and most of the time, they won't be helpful, since they will just try to be killed as soon as possible.

If you can separate your own problems from the game AND keep it that way, go for it. Because sometimes it doesn’t matter how badly or how well you perform, it gets very personal and toxic in the post-game chat. Doesn’t matter if you are new or if you have been playing this game since it has been released.
I could go on for longer and I feel like I haven’t even talked about half of the things but I’ll just leave it as a negative review. I really think BHVR could do better.
