It's 2017. This game is still a bug-riddled mess, nearly 8 years after release.

I knew how notoriously buggy Arma games are, but surely that was only after release, and all the bad issues are patched now? Not at all. Literally five minutes into the first tutorial mission the game is already broken. Fortunately that bug is fixed by beta patches (why the hell are there even beta patches eight years after release?), but many others are not, including gamebreakers like savegame corruption that erases all your progress in a mission, or simple crashes. But it's the less serious bugs that are all the more common - AI teammates getting stuck on buildings or refusing to fire on the enemy, commanding interface breaking down only a few minutes after you start playing, mission scripting skipping half the dialogue or not allowing you to progress after fulfilling all the goals... And that's not even mentioning the myriad of smaller issues and graphical glitches you'll see and learn to go past.

I tried searching the issues on Google to see if there are ways to fix them, and every single time there was a thread on the developer's forums from 2010 or 2011 detailing the issue, with others confirming the issue, and yet it's still there today. This is a stark decline compared to Operation Flashpoint (now Arma: Cold War Assault) and Armed Assault, the two preceding game in the series, which I both own - while both of them had their share of issues at release, they are nearly bug-free nowadays, at least compared to Arma 2.

When the game happens to work it's great fun - until the a new issue ruins it... once again. So while I enjoy the game at times, I cannot with a clear conscience recommend it to anyone, not even to fans of the genre.
