Pretty much my most played game of all time. Spawn in as a survivor, loot houses and other buildings, craft weapons and food, make an awesome base to withstand the zombie horde. Every 7 days the zombies will come at night and try to take your base down. It's a lot of fun. There's a huge modding community.

It's a bit ironic that the company that makes this game is not amazing, and they seem to make the game a little worse with each release. Why a huge thumbs up then? Because the modding community has done amazing things with this game. You can look for the 7 days to die mod launcher, there's enough content to keep you busy forever. The best crafting survival game ever.

I'm really torn on how to review this game. The truth is, it's got a lot of cool stuff going for it, but it's also kind of buggy and frustrating to play. It's quite literally a Rimworld clone in a Minecraft world. It's pretty much a lot like Rimworld (even same item names in some cases, like simple meal and lavish meal, etc), but in a world that is 3 dimensional and basically geological strata to mine through like Minecraft.

The Pros:
A lot like Rimworld
Skills and colonists are generally pretty in depth and cool
Lots of items to craft
3 Dimensional world makes building lots of rooms and stuff far more in depth than Rimworld
Colonists have actual kids that turn into new colonists (I'm overlooking the rampant incest, at least in my colony)
Lots of resources and Minecraft sized world to explore

The Cons:
Buggy
Unfinished
Colonists are an absolute nightmare to get to do what you want
Lack of feedback about issues (WHY won't my colonists do what I want them to do?)
No way to select a colonist and order them to take on a task you specify
You can select colonist priorities but god help you what they actually do (I keep repeating this, but it's ungodly frustrating)
I was trying to make a "fridge" using an air conditioner and they're ungodly huge, hard to enclose, couldn't get it to work
Water is very janky, it won't "fill in" blocks properly, at least it doesn't seem to for purposes of using things like the air conditioner
Prospecting for minerals is an absolute nightmare, you get "hints" but I have not used them successfully to find jack squat
Finding minerals in general is a real pain, unless you get lucky and find a surface or underwater deposit already uncovered
As of time I've been playing, there hasn't been an update in a month, and that seems like a long time for a game so early on

Tl;dr This game has amazing potential and I suspect it will be super good in 6-12 months, but it's too early. Especially for the price. I'd only recommend it if you already have Rimworld and you're desperate for something new.

Neat game, but it needs some things to work for me. First off, it has an insane learning curve and it's very reflex based, so keep this in mind if you're old and bad. But my biggest beef is that while there is a brief tutorial, there is no matchmaking to find similar ranked opponents, and there is no practice mode or bots or whatever to go against.

So basically playing the game throws you in with very experienced players, who ride around on horses and one shot you. You run around looking for a 1 on 1 to try to practice fighting, but it's always either 4 of your guys against 1 and you can't even got a shot in before the enemy dies, or you run into 3 or 4 guys and die before getting swing in.

Basically, the game is very unfriendly to new players and there is no way I can find to learn, other than repeatedly get one shot by highly skilled players and then sit around bored waiting to respawn. Yes I am a baddie, but ultimately I'm not willing to suffer the amount it appears to take to be successful at this game, at this time.

Ultra grindy monster fighting game. Fights are pretty tough and take a long time (sometimes 30-45 minutes). Dying can really suck if you work for 30 minutes and then lose. If you like boss fights and hack and slash combat it might be your thing. It's like Dark Souls but with all kinds of spiky dragon-like critters. Definitely a console port, but it works pretty well, you can use an xbox or ps controller with steam big picture mode and play it just like the console version.

Really neat game. Very strong modding community. Basically it's kind of like space lego technics. The amount of stuff you can build is dizzying. On the one hand, it was a really heavy learning curve coming over from Empyrion and Astroneer.

Space Engineers does not spoon feed you. It doesn't just make a nice little ship for you, and put the buttons where you'd want them, and all of that jazz. You have a great deal of control, but by the same token, you have to do everything by hand. There are of course ships and mods to download in the workshop, but it's not like Empyrion where you can just have default blueprints and just drop a ship right away. You really have to think about things.

I spent 6 hours designing a flying miner ship. It kept tipping over and having other issues. As soon as I had mined some ore, it'd be too heavy to move, or the weight distribution would be off, and every time I'd be upside down again. But it was super satisfying to keep iterating and get it to work right.

tl;dr mine stuff, build stuff

This game is pretty fun. It's basically kind of a lego minecraft in space thing. It's a sandbox game, arguably survival, although it's limited in that regard because the only ways to die are aggressive plants, falling, or running out of oxygen. I guess it's also a bit like no man's sky, except without enemies, and limited ship options.

Basically you spawn on a planet, you mine resources, explore procedurally generated worlds, and there is a way to "win" although I won't spoil the details here.

There's a lot of complaints about bugs right now, and it's mostly valid. I have a very high end computer, and I had limited issues, except for tether lag when using a lot of them, and the sometimes launching in the air and falling to your death bug. None of it is really a big deal, just ran back and grab your stuff.

Multiplayer is a bit worse, it's laggy, and there's more issues in general. Still, it was playable for me and a friend, with understanding some things were just a bit glitchy. There's also no servers at this time, but they are slated to come someday.

I got the game on sale and it was a good value for the money. If you like games where you explore, mine, build bases, fly around and gather and build stuff, this is probably a good buy for you. I really enjoyed my playthrough.

Excellent game, very grindy but seriously fun. Kind of like Kenshi, similar "band of heroes" roaming sandbox feel, but it's got a first person combat perspective as well. It's really a fascinating mix of building a kingdom and building a band of heroes. If you like sandbox warfare / building a band of powerful heroes / taking over the world, this game is probably for you. A lot of variety of skills and strategies, plus a TON of great mods. Insane value for the price.

This game has an old school feel to it. The class/job system feels a lot like FFXII. You get a primary and secondary class. You can do various quests to unlock classes, and you can mix and match them. There's also animal forms which have their own skill sets as well. The game has an interesting reputation system, which allows you to learn new classes/skills/recipes from NPCs. In addition you get other benefits, like being able to store equipment with them. There's also a very interesting "hang out" system, where you can spend time hanging out with NPCs while offline, so it's a way of progressing in the game while offline.

The game in general is pretty open world and flexible. You're pretty much encouraged to just do whatever you like. There's all kinds of NPCs, and they may give you very easy or very hard tasks to do. There's a lot of different crafting skills, and many quests require you to obtain crafted items.

All in all, the game is pretty grindy, crafting and quests and what-not require a lot of gathering of items, which require repetitive tasks. But it's nice because you can more or less just do whatever you like. The game makes it easy to just explore and find neat things to do.

The community is small but friendly. There's an admin on all of the time, they do frequent events, special weekend events, spawn invasions of the towns, and so forth. I'm honestly amazed that the community is so small, with such a fun and friendly game.

The main downsides are the graphics are pretty poor, the gameplay is definitely grind oriented, so if you hate grinding this may not be for you. If you liked Final Fantasy online (11, the original), and the feel of games like Asheron's Call, EverQuest and so forth, this may be the game for you. I think the main issue for a lot of people is the price, I bet if it went on sale they'd get a lot of sales. This game is definitely a hidden gem, with the price probably scaring away a lot of people who'd enjoy this kind of MMO.

Ugh. Terrible. No tutorial or difficulty slider. Start a game on what I guess is normal difficulty? Everything seems relatively okay until my guys find a town that was destroyed. My town which was full of hope and had no problems whatsoever, plenty of food, etc, suddenly everyone panics. Then my town full of hope, suddenly just TANKS TO ZERO on a dime. Suddenly I need tons of police to "give my people hope". I didn't have enough time to rebuild my town to form my police state, so 2 days after I discovered the dead town, I'm fired and escorted out of town.

Honestly the game isn't even remotely fun to me. It feels like Rimworld but instead of being randomly good or bad, it just hammers you incessantly. You're constantly being peppered with bad news, it's just stressful.

It's too bad because the game is visually beautiful and definitely has some things going for it, but it needs a tutorial and an ability to have a difficulty that isn't "spend 3 hours playing, then get escorted out of town for arbitrary reasons with no chance to do anything about it". Do not recommend at this time.

My final review/update of the game: The game is fun, but to be honest, I don't recommend it. My biggest and final issue is that the developer is going through a large number of undocumented changes (stealth nerfs) to try to balance the game. My beef is not with them balancing the game. If the game needs to be balanced, then balance it. But apparently to avoid community backlash, they have stopped putting changes that might upset the community into the patch notes. They simply nerf things and let the community figure it out. This leads to mass confusion and people constantly complaining about bugs, that are just nerfs they didn't have the guts to document.

The game is buggy as all get out, but I figure at some point that should be fixed. The negative review does not reflect that the game is in fact a buggy mess. It's really buggy. It's also fun, when the developer isn't ruining it. And every patch seems to break as much as it fixes, more so when they stealth nerf a bunch of stuff, fix a few things, and break a few other things.

Re-updating to negative. Hello Games needs to get their head out of their rear ends. They released a "farming update" that seriously ruins the gameplay for the people who enjoyed farming, while there's a number of stupid bugs and exploits still available for others to make money.

Just let the farmers farm, man. Adjust the prices down if you need to, but it's stupid to make it so people who enjoy growing crops and making stuff can't enjoy it anymore.

My original review is below. I had marked it negative, but I'm flipping it to positive. Understand that this game is not worth 50 bucks, it's more like an early access title and for the half price I paid, it's a fair deal. This is probably a 29.99 game. The graphics are beautiful and it's fun to play, but it's also buggy and the controls are awful. If you don't like exploring and mining, I kind of doubt you'll like it. For me it was really close, I darn near quit, if I hadn't already spent over 2 hours playing I probably would've refunded it.

I've got very mixed feelings about this game. The actual gameplay is pretty fun, but the game is supremely unintuitive and things are poorly explained. The story "tutorial" is extremely contrived and poorly written. The killer though is that when you go to some planet there are these annoying police drones that follow you around trying to stop you from mining. In a game where mining seems to be the primary thing to do. And if you kill it, it just brings more of them, infinitely as far as I can tell, forcing you to just flee and avoid them until they're no longer mad at you.

I'm already too far in to refund, so I'm going to keep playing for now and see if it gets better. I got lured in by all the reviews saying how great it is now. I'm not impressed. It might be worth it if you like mining and exploring, and can put up with a lot of contrived BS and a poor UI. Clearly this game was designed for console and not PC, and it shows.
