When things get tough pick yourself up and keep on moving

For the record and to clarify my name is Henry, Andycat refers of course and is a tribute to my cat named Andy.

On a sad note, been away from Steam for the past several months care giving for my wife Joy.

After a long illness that progressed faster the last 9 months of her life and being on Oxygen 24hrs a day for the last year, Joy was hospitalized on emergency early morning Feb 26, 2015 by Paramedic. She was admitted to ICU as she was very unstable. While receiving wonderful care at West Hills Hospital Joy suffered an event on March 18 where her heart and breathing stopped. Emergency measures were taken to start her heart back up which were successful and a breathing tube was inserted and she was put on a ventilator to help her breathe. It was determined shortly there after, Joy had suffered a mild heart attack. Although Joy was sedated and fairly comfortable under the circumstances she was never stable enough through the next week. As a result and with the understanding Joy no longer had an opportunity for a Lung Transplant and her personal wishes not to prolong her life on a machine any longer than necessary, a decision was made to start Hospice at the Hospital March 25, 2015.
Joy passed peacefully and comfortably surrounded by family and close friends today March 25, 2015 around 12:30 pm pst
Joy lived a good life with many adventures and good times, she will be missed but she made a lasting impact on friends, family and others who were fortunate to have known her.
Joy was a special Ed teacher and worked also as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. She made a positive difference with the students she taught and the people she counseled. As a note I can remember many instances in the past where we were out doing various errands or just out and about for the day and past students and clients would be so happy to see her and let her know the positive impact and difference she made in their lives. I can’t think of anything better in life than to have that as a legacy as to make a positive difference with people.

PS when I arrived back home and went to the front door I was greeted by a Hummingbird and as some of you may know a Hummingbird is said to carry the soul of the recently departed. And I’d like to think Joy in a sense came home before moving on to her eternal resting place.
