Atmospheric, deep and super, super challenging. I never knew I wanted a roguelike city builder, but here we are. A fascinating, wonderful thing.

Good on the developers for trying something different, but it's a disappointing mess. Tries to many different mechanics to do any of them particularly well.

Combat is too simplistic. Environments too repetitive and bland. Acting varies from great to barely passable. Questionable historicity and accuracy.

Story starts strong, but can't help itself and has to inject modern politics.

Seriously. I don't care what your politics are - if you are making a period/historical game, then please make it period appropriate and leave your burning desire to virtue signal.

It's boring and so many of us are sick of it.

A refreshing little gem of a game that expertly manages the odd feat of being both relaxing and unsettling at the same time.

Wonderfully clever little puzzler that will make you feel like an idiot twice. Once when you are completely stumped finding a solution, and again when you see how in front of you it was all along.

At the time of writing I've only played 12 hours, but already I feel like it's pretty special. Yes, the main loop consists of delivering packages while a weird story plays out, but to say it ends there is to seriously sell it short. There's something fascinating here.

In amongst the complex, clever systems that continue to roll out hour after hour there is some fresh and new and very, very Kojima in it's weirdness.

I'm not going to try and convince you that Kojima is a misunderstood genius. I'm no fanboy, but by the end of Death Stranding, I might be.

YMMV.

It had a rocky start, but now it's in an amazing place. A TONNE of things to do, collect and kill. It's free to play, so you've got no reason to not try it at least.

2025 Update: Need a middle thumb option. It's harder to recommend these days. The Edge of Fate is the first expansion I'm not buying at launch. The value just isn't there yet.

Maybe one of the best games ever made. Brilliant and challenging puzzle game with a perfect learning curve.
