I understand that not everybody likes this game but I have to stress that some of the negative reviews are very misleading:
It is true that new players do not stand the tiniest chance in pvp-combat against veterans that have many years into this game. It is also true that even if you spend a thousand dollars to speed up your progress you will still hardly become a match for these players in the near future.

This is a long-term MMO. You are supposed to develop your char over the course of several years. This has nothing to do with "paywall" and it does not mean that new players are unable to enjoy this game right from the start.

This game is a sandbox. Nobody forces you to look for 1-vs-1 combat with veteran players and the chances that "they" attack you are very low if you stick to some simple principles that you can look up in the forum or elsewhere. There is a minimum of 20.000 players online at any given time and the vast majority of them does not care about you or your ways. Just dont make yourself a target by flying a super expensive ship just for the sake of flying a super expensive ship or by hauling cargo worth a billion isk to lowsec areas without escort and scouts. Dont use the autopliot and never ever whine, brag or insult in local chat.

PvP-combat is just one of many things you can do in this game. You can mine, craft, trade, explore, run PvE-missions and who-knows-what-else to your hearts content - dont let the constant fear of "getting ganked" by a bunch of psychos ruin your game-experience. It may happen to you from time to time but it is not very likely and if you get into this game you will understand why that is.

This game is very deep and very complex and chances are that you will spend the first ten hours or so just struggling with the UI and the seemingly endless amount of menus and submenus before it all falls together and starts to make sense at some point. You will be reading a lot of text, both ingame and external sources. The game is 16 years old and very well documented. If this outlook does not scare you, you should definetly give it try.

It is also a good place to socialize, the community seems to be very friendly and grown-up for the most part, but there are also a lot of scammers and griefers - I recommend staying in the default corp for some time before you join a player-run corp. The ability to figure what benefits you and your playstyle and what doesnt is very vital in this game.

PlanetSide is an unforgiving mistress. Plagued with bugs. Unstable servers. No matchmaking. Instant death around every turn. Latency often makes it seem like people from newbies who spawned in for the first time 5 minutes ago to legendary vets with 20 years of experience on Auraxis can turn around and dome you instantly despite emptying an entire magazine into them, completely unfairly.

The experience between a legitimately amazing player at the top of their game and a cheater is very thin, I myself have fought everyone under the sun from people who have aimbot installed directly into their brain, to the lowlifes who think putting one in the install directory is good enough. I have fought people half way across the globe who lag behind the rest of us by half a second or more but play legit, and I have fought ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who run net limiters to shoot through walls.

PlanetSide has lots of reasons to hate it, put it down, curse out the devs on reddit because they wont, or cant, "fix" the game. It has many flaws, probably enough to significantly offset all that it offers. But thats just it, it is the sole competitor in its market. Fluid battles, true combined arms, only in PlanetSide can you jump from a plane, gun down 4 people from the roof of the building you landed on, before causally hopping into a passing tank to continue the push directly into an enemy armor column 200 meters down the road. I have fought in last stands reminiscent of the Alamo, 14 random soldiers against a crushing force of 48+, and while most end the same way as the fort I compared it to, just occasionally, you will rebuff entire platoons with those 14 randoms who stuck it with you.

I have been in battles where over 1000 people are throwing everything they have at each other in a base the size of a relatively large Call of Duty map. I have been in intense skirmishes less than 1 percent of that in size that decided the fate of the continent. I have played at times where both those fights happen simultaneously. I have seen, fought in, and commanded massive air battles, armor columns, and scores of infantry to huge victories, and to equally devastating defeats.

PlanetSide has many reasons to stop playing. PlanetSide has a troubled past, and an uncertain future. PlanetSide infuriates every cell of my body. But PlanetSide has gifted me a sense of community. PlanetSide has given me friends I could never of met anywhere else. PlanetSide has granted me a truly persistent world that I can tangibly affect just by logging in, even if only on tiny scales or the occasional battle I had a lucky kill streak to hold a point or generator.

It will be a tough journey. PlanetSide will do everything in its power to stop you from loading it up just one more time. But, if you can just find that one squad to help you out, that outfit to pull you through, and you can tough it out to get to the end, you will be given a world, a game, and a community you cannot find anywhere else. Take it from a salty veteran who has quit the game twice, we have tried to find it somewhere else.

In the end, we all come back. We all just sit down, hop into comms, spawn onto Auraxis, and shoot some mans. See you on the battlefield.

I think it's about time I finally review this game.

I've had a history with this game. I've played this game since Isis was released, which was over 2 years ago. I remember that I was a HUGE fan of the old Sun Wukong (Hun Batz nowadays) and enjoyed the game, although I never got hooked into it. I eventually just stopped playing and went to get addicted to other games, namely Team Fortress 2. Fast foward to 2015, where SMITE is finally released on Steam. I was very curious to give this another try, so I did. Now, before I continue, I have something to say. All of my good friends know this fact well, and I HEAVILY emphasize this:

I hate MOBA games.

Long story with that, but I just never liked them, besides Awesomenauts. I downloaded SMITE and gave it a second chance, figuring it might be pretty cool now. Okay, this is the part where you look at the number of hours I have in the game. Just take a nice, solid look at it. To the review!

Graphics

MOBAs aren't known to have god-tier graphics (heh) and SMITE is no exception. The game is just... eh. It's sort of bland, but at the same time it actually looks really nice in some places, like Siege and Conquest. Not much to say here, but this is not a game for the photographers out there like myself.

Gameplay

The big question to this is, "Is SMITE a good enough MOBA to compare with LoL and DOTA?" The answer to that question is, well, yes! I find it much better to BE the character your playing as, rather than telling them what to do. It's what makes SMITE stand out from the rest of the crowd, and it shines brightly in this way. I don't want to start a flame war, but although it is very simple to understand, the game is much more difficult to master because of the fact you have to actually LAND your shots. No more "clicky-clicky here's the part where 3 champions die" or whatever. Your abilities matter, and missing one could change the course of a game. Plus, of course, teamwork is important in Conquest, and I haven't actually encountered many "OP" gods, if any at all. Some items are clearly better than others *cough* bluestone pendant *cough* *cough* but most aren't too severe. Overall, SMITE delivers with the gameplay by miles.

Story

Just like whether or not Set will be added to the game, there is no known story. This will not be counted towards the final score.

Audio

The audio isn't all that special, but the some of the voice packs you can purchase for gods are actually really funny. Some of the writing is extremely clever and gives the game a LOT of personality.

Replayability

Compared to DOTA and LoL, this game is much easier to pick up and play, although still being a very competitive game. The community, although not sunshine and rainbows, is much easier to deal with and far friendlier than those other toxic wastes of "communities." The gameplay, as said earlier, is simple and it doesn't require too much experience to understand, however I would recommend staying away from Conquest in that case. There are also daily rewards, but I don't like the fact that the prizes don't get increasingly better after 7 days, because it doesn't feel right getting 75 Favor for playing 8 days of SMITE. Invest the time, however, and it'll greatly pay off. Trust me on that.

Verdict

In the end, SMITE gives me a much better point of view on MOBAs, my least favorite genre of gaming. I can easily recommend this game if you don't want to go through a brutal experience like DOTA and LoL, and the fact that it brings out its differences with pride makes it one of the most enjoyable and addictive games I've played since Team Fortress 2.

Graphics - 6.5/10
Gameplay - 9.5/10
Story - NONE
Audio - 8.5/10
Replayability - 9.0/10

**PERSONAL PICK**

.:8.5/10:.

+Unique third person view
+Friendly community (mostly)
+Skins & voice packs give the gods charm
+Simple to learn, truly hard to master
+References galore!

-Bland graphics
-Daily rewards needs small improvement
-Audio (aside from voice packs) isn't very memorable

You open the game and finish your 3000 word essay that's due tomorrow while it loads you into the main menu. You pray they fed the server hamsters today as you queue for a game. You pick Octane cause you like running around fast, not cause he's on drugs. Your teammates pick Caustic and Wraith. It's another TTV Wraith. The champion squad is a pred and 2 master players. The game begins and your caustic spends all game on his own trapping buildings, while you run around juiced up looking for loot and killing anyone in your way. You get jumped by a squad because footstep audio doesn't exist and you couldn't hear them coming. TTV Wraith goes down. You clutch a 1v3 because mastiff is balanced. Meanwhile, your Caustic is setting up traps outside the zone. You collect your Wraith's banner and try to respawn them but they leave with 0.2s left on the timer. You're in awe that this one stayed that long. Someone sees you next to the respawn beacon and kills you. They then immediately get 3rd partied while a far off 4th squad member misses all his kraber shots on them. The predator player shows up out of nowhere and wipes everyone in one sweep, dropping another 4k 20 bomb in the process. Your caustic dies to zone. You're back in the main menu and a random level 500 is waiting there for you in your party. They complain about not having heirlooms despite playing since season 1 but the dude that started last week has 2. You queue for another game. You get disconnected because two server hamsters passed out from hunger. Code: leaf. You wait to load back into the main menu and queue once more, cause you know it's worth going through it all again just to take another glance at Loba's thick ass.

10/10. Def recommend

This game is not for everybody, and that's okay. The story mode alone is worth placing this in your "try" list, especially since it's a free title.

Pros:

- The developer is the publisher. Tencent is now majority investor, but the negative affects (if any) haven't been seen by the players.
- Microtransactions are convenience/cosmetic. MTX shop is not forced on you.
- Diverse playstyles, replayability is really high. (see reviews with thousands of hours)
- Content for literal days. New new areas and mechanics seem to come every quarter.

Cons:

- The game mechanics behind character stats are not what I'd consider intuitive. Learning it on your own without guides/videos/friends is nearly impossible.
- Boss difficulty is very spikey. If you don't have something recording to re-watch your deaths, you'll have many moments wondering where you made a mistake.
- The new player experience is a bit lacking when it comes to builds. It's a common theme among my friends that doing your first play-through, you get hard stuck at some point in story mode. If you made it this far through the review, do yourself a favor and follow a new player guide or build guide.

Many, many hours of fun without any required paying. Not new player friendly, be prepared to start over if you don't follow a guide.

To conclude, I mentioned earlier that PoE is not for everyone. After 150 hrs, I've come to find out it's not for me, either. That doesn't make it a bad game, and I still firmly place it in "recommended" for anyone who enjoys ARPG/Hack and Slash games. I will not be playing any more, but I do not regret my time spent in PoE. Good luck, exile.

Not pay to win
Before I start my review, I want to dispell this notion. Anyone who tells you this game is pay to win is wrong, or lying to you. Most of the good weapons are mastery rank locked and even if you buy things to bypass the grind, you still have to level those Warframes and weapons, you still have to play the game to grind and get mods for your weapons and Warframes to make them actually perform well in end-game content. You're blindsiding yourself if you're going to make the argument that this game is pay to win. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's get to the actual review.

Graphics
I had to start off by reviewing the graphical quality of this game, because it's so beautiful. Everything is well polished and good-looking, the appearance of Warframe will not hesitate to immerse you into the environment. On top of that, graphically the game is extremely well optimized compared to other games, and can run on many older computers without an issue. There is no section of the game that is forgotten about in regards to visuals. Clearly, a lot of love has been put into this game and you can tell that immediately just by looking at how beautiful and immersive the game is.

Gameplay
Warframe's content and gameplay are some of the best for any free-to-play game out there. Everything in Warframe is available without paying if you are willing to grind for it. One of the best freemium models out there, seriously. You can earn Platinum, the premium currency, in-game without ever spending a cent on it. As for the Warframes themselves, each one is unique, and there are over 35 of them. 35! That's a lot of different characters to choose from. Each of them has 4 unique abilities that do different things, and you can typically mod a Warframe 3 different ways or more to focus on a specific part of their ability kit. That is a fantastic amount of customization and one of the things I love most about the game. I will say that the star chart content can get a bit repetitive at times, but if you stick it out, fill out your star chart, and get into high level content, it'll feel less repetitive in due time. At higher levels the combat gets much more complex. Try staying for at least an hour in a survival mission if you decide to play, and you'll see what I mean.

Cosmetics
I had to talk about the cosmetics in Warframe because let's face it- fashion, looking good and uniqueness are important aspects of any videogame. Warframe has a ton of cosmetics, and they're all extremely beautiful and wonderful. Once you get through all the star chart content, you may find yourself grinding for Platinum to purchase a new set of clothes- or outright buying it with real money, I won't judge you for it. In fact, some of the best cosmetics in the game can only be purchased with real money- the TennoGen cosmetics are handsomely crafted with love by individual creators, and your money goes back to those creators, supporting them and allowing them to make more wonderful content for the game.

Grinding
I'll flesh out my review by saying this. If you don't like grinding or MMO-type games, Warframe probably isn't for you. I would still give it a go even if you don't like those types of games, but you're probably not going to enjoy it if you aren't a patient person. Grinding is the name of the game in Warframe, and RNG affects many activities in the game. If you don't like the fact that you aren't guaranteed certain things and have to wait for warframes and weapons to finish building before you can use them, or that you have to farm resources to build them, then you probably won't enjoy the game. Still, if you invest your time into the grind, you can acquire nearly anything you want for no cost at all.

Updates
One great thing about Warframe is that they are constantly updating the game and delivering new content to us. Year round, we get new Warframes, quests, and content, albeit they can be buggy at the start. We received Sanctuary Onslaught, a new gamemode, and The Sacrifice, a new quest, earlier this year, and we're getting Fortuna, an open-world area on Venus later this year. That's a lot of content for one year! While it's not always the best and most optimized content, I see more love poured into Warframe content than that of any other game at the current time. The devs maintain a strong relationship with the community and actively ask questions to the players about what they want to see and what they want changed, and do frequent livestreams for fun and for discussing where they are in terms of development with the game. Their strong community commitment is one of the great things that many people love about Warframe- DE's transparency and willingness to maintain a strong bond with us is something that not many other game companies can brag about.

Conclusion
So, if you read my entire thing and some of my points sparked your interest, I would definitely reccommend giving the game a go. I have loved every second I've played of Warframe and I can honestly say it's one of the only games whose future updates I'm currently excited for. There are no downsides to trying the game out- after all, it's free to play and if you don't like the grind then you can stop at any time and uninstall the game. There's no paywalls or money barriers to any of the content in the game. It takes time to grind for resources and build things, but if you can develop patience, that grinding pays off, and the game will only get deeper and more complex as a result.
