Not recommended for general audiences, but highly recommended if you like Japanese culture. If you decide to play this game, it is extremely important to see all the main endings: 1, 2, 3, and 4. However, NG+ is extremely tedious to play as you go through the exact same areas in about the same fashion. The story as a whole is excellent but the tedium of NG+ gameplay makes it hard sell. If you appreciate Japanese culture, that boost is what counters the tedium and pushes this game to "recommended" territory.

Cons:

-Repetitive enemies, especially after NG+.
-Some enemy behavior like the screaming attack stops you in your tracks and ruins the pace of combat.
-Swapping omamori charms is annoying. We should have been able to save and load loadouts to quickly swap between sets.
-NG+ gameplay is extremely boring as the levels you progress through are basically the same.
-No new "routes" in NG+. I was hoping for entire new routes, like a certain character surviving the beginning of the game or something.

Pros:

-The new notes and endings in NG+ and NG++ are excellent.
-The story is great and goes from a 6/10 to 9/10 after getting all the endings.
-Boss designs are really cool.
-Graphics are great, though I would have liked more color.

Neutral:
-Mob designs are initially cool but due to repetitive encounters they stop being interesting.
-Certain combat music is irritating but other pieces of music are great.
-The translation is fine but certain lines are translated weirdly.

Tips:
-Really explore everything to get all the notes if you can. Run to all the nook and crannies and look for A button icons. Some notes will be on the ground too, so keep your camera position in mind.
-Regarding action difficulty setting: If you die too much the game will let you lower the difficulty. Hard actually gets pretty annoying. For general audiences, I recommend Story difficulty.
-Regarding puzzle difficulty setting: I played on Lost in the Fog difficulty and some puzzles are super obnoxious but I still managed to solve all of them without a guide after wracking my brains. No recommendation on which setting is good.

Other Notes:
-I played with Xbox controller, so don't know how good the keyboard controls are. Plays fine on controller.
-I played with Japanese voice acting and don't know how good the English voices are.

For people who want to do more Phantom Thieving.

If you think to yourself, "Man, I wish P5 had more villains to change the heart of and palaces to explore", then this game is for you. More dastardly villains to change the heart of in the same format as P5-palace exploration, calling card, the works-everything you're already familiar with from P5.

I was hoping for a twist or something new, like giving people treasure to change their ways or destroying palaces in a different way, but nope. Due to lack of innovation in the story, I was disappointed and won't recommend this game to most people that already played P5. BUT again if you love the P5 Phantom Thieving format you would love this game.

---

Some other notes:
-graphics and music are all high quality and top notch.
-the player character has very weak motivations. He becomes a phantom thief almost on a whim
-characters (villains included) are interesting and entertaining to watch
-voice acting is great if you like Japanese voice actors, except for the owl Lufel imo. I wish they made the voice actor use her usual cute voice and adjusted Lufel's design to match
-I hated mementos and it's back, car and all. Expect to be forced to navigate the same boring subway tunnels.
-I still intend to play this game casually just to see what the devs come up with in terms of characters and designs

My first Monster Hunter. Very fun gameplay loop. Worth playing just to see all the cool monsters and equipment. I recommend just playing the base game and skipping the Iceborne DLC, as Iceborne gets tedious and boring. The difficulty ramps up, which is fine, but the tool you're given to balance the difficulty (clutch claw) is unfun to use. If you must play Iceborne (ie., you want to fight the admittedly awesome final free update monsters, Alatreon and Fatalis) consider taking a long break after finishing the base game and before starting Iceborne to avoid burnout.

Worth buying the Deluxe Edition for this in my opinion, if you're an average player like me. Really helpful for Dante Must Die difficulty.

Swap to a set of these, if you are low on health, at a goddess statue or phone booth. Break Age them until your health is full. Then swap back to your regular combat devil breakers.

If you don't plan on playing DMD difficulty though you probably won't find this that useful.
