Lose yourself for dozens of hours driving through some pretty spectacular scenery and performing railroad operations all over the world such as driving (of course), switching, loading/unloading cargo and passengers and completing various tasks of a modern day railroad. The game plays and runs well for the most part but some of the routes (Steven's Pass in particular) are not well optimized and require some gfx settings reduction to run smoothly. The game also has numerous bugs which thankfully most of them are small and tolerable but others are unforgivable like the fact that 5 out of 7 of the Donner Pass career scenarios can't be completed on time so you don't get any career points.

One look at the store page and you'll figure out that the real meat of the game is in the DLC. And there's alot of it. The base package doesn't provide much. The Steam edition provides a bit more. Most of the DLC is overpriced so it's wise to wait for a sale before grabbing any of it unless there's just something you have to have now. I will say that the routes (at least the ones I've played) are all well done and provide hours and hours of gameplay in and of themselves. When you're done with the included scenarios, there are many more excellent fan made content for free from the Steam workshop, so the more you have, the more you can get for free. There's also a quick drive mode where you can make your own train and consist and drive it anywhere on the routes you own, this is a great feature.

+Good gfx
+Good sound
+Many Hours of gameplay (hundreds)
+Free downloadable content via Steam workshop
+Many game modes to choose from
+Compete against your friends via leaderboards on the career scenarios
+Included editor allows you to create your own scenarios

-Some loco DLC are missing important details and have poor horn sounds
-Some annoying bugs on the career scenarios that prevent career points
-Overpriced DLC (wait for sales)
-The developer DTG has a reputation for being slow to fix bugs, if at all

Overall 8/10
