Sony has listened to the playerbase. As of Midnight May 6th, they announced on Twitter (X) that the update to require PSN account linking in order to play Helldivers 2 has been axed. The only limiter preventing a genuine Helldivers experience has been broken. Managed Democracy is victorious once again, brothers and sisters of Liberty.

While the initial business decision has stained Sony's reputation as a publisher, this is unquestionably a victory for the gaming consumer-base as a whole. We have the power to make the publishing titans of the industry listen to a unified voice, and the Helldivers 2 experience is now once-again free to be enjoyed and immersed across the world.
