Pure art. One of my top two games of all time, the other being Outer Wilds.

This is not a typical platformer where you're a hero and you're killing enemies. It's not even a Dark Souls type thing where basic enemies are common but still deadly if you're not careful. No, Rain World is an ecosystem simulator in which you're only two or three links up from the bottom of the food chain. If most games have you play a tiger, here you play as a capybara. Predators are ubiquitous, deadly, and rarely worth the effort to kill. Instead you will sneak by, crouching terrified under sparse cover until you can sneak out to grab a bite of food. There are places to explore and things to do -- many more than you might first expect -- but your primary concern is always surviving. The game is mysterious, opaque, cruel, uncompromising, and if you give it the time, transcendent.

This game is the actual modern-day successor to the old Rainbow Six games. Siege is fun, but it's very fast-paced compared to the old games. Intruder brings back the planning, gadgets, and tense tactical gameplay that the series was rooted in. But here it's built on with multiplayer and proximity voice chat, becoming something truly special.

At first glance it's just another objective-based team shooter, a poor man's Counter-Strike. But soon you realize how creative the game lets you be: you've got a camera to peek around corners, motion sensors and remote charges, there are vents to crawl through, secret codes to find, and the physics system is a huge part of the gameplay. The way that voice chat works is both immersive and hilarious: you'll be standing guard in a hallway and hear a group of thieves outside discussing how to break in. Or on the flip side, you'll be about to sneak in a lockpicked door, but be saved by hearing the guard inside radio in to his allies.

It's just a brilliant game with so much emergent chaos and so many ways to play. I can't recommend it enough. Now that it's gone on sale the playerbase should be healthier, and if you can get some friends together for a private lobby, there's no end to the fun.
