“Don’t fall in love with a poet”
A quote I've heard many times.
What if I am such a poet?
The poet who falls in love with the small things.

The love for a childhood home,
The way that one door wouldn’t close in summer,
Or the way I knew every creaky floorboard.

The love of a lost friend,
The once-a-year happy birthdays,
Or how you tried to teach me guitar.

The love of a lost girl,
The beauty in the way she fixed her hair,
Or the way she held me as she slept.

The small acts I can never unlove.
I wish someone had warned me:
Never fall in love as a poet.
