Sgt. Siwash, a duck enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, famously fought a Japanese rooster during the Battle of Tarawa. The rooster, who was reportedly quite aggressive, pecked Siwash, but the duck ultimately chased it off. Siwash received a citation for his bravery and wounds received during the encounter.
