[Update 2020]
After a long hiatus from the PC where I spent a couple years playing only console, I'm back and craving some deep RPGs. I'm going to give BGEE another try with a new game from scratch and hope I don't run into the breaking bugs again (6 years later). I played through to chapter 7 with not a single problem (although I'm stuck lol).

[old review]
This game was mostly unplayable at launch due to bugs. For instance, the quest log--after I got to Chapter 5, it went away, impossible to know what the quests are, what to do, where to go. Just one of the many bugs. The people who give this glowing reviews did not finish the game. And, as you can see, I invested many hours into it. There are areas where if you talk to an NPC before doing something else, the game just about blows up--from talking to an NPC! Your party is stuck, unable to leave the zone. I mean, it's just one thing like that after another with this broken mess. Sure, it is nostalgic, it's FUN, but only if you dabble for a few minutes and then quit, as I suspect 99% of the reviewers out there have done. Play it to win it, and you'll see what I'm talking about. I played through most of the game's content but am not able to finish it to see how it ends.

[addendum] Beamdog fixed a lot of bugs during 2014, and I quit playing at one point toward the end without actually finishing. As someone here and on forums has suggested, the game did have corrupted savegame file problems that made a HUGE mess out of the game if you happen to be unlucky enough to have run into it, where the only solution is to reload from an earlier save. My best guess is, I ran into one of those problems, continued playing, and the game was messed up forever after that. Very possible starting a new game with the final patch would clear it all up.

That doesn't change the fact that the game was unplayable for me. And just because *you* played it through 100% without any issues, doesn't mean it didn't have problems last year.

Ugh, so much abou this game drives me CRAZY, but so much of it is fun too. The fun part is mostly due to open-world sandbox play, with no scripted gameplay, you can just sail around and do what you want. The good is pretty good. The bad is absolutely a deal breaker, though. The dancing thing with the governor daughter is impossible on the PC. I played this to death on the Xbox with no problems but this stupid PC version gives you 1/10th of a second to respond to the dancing bullcrap which made that part of the game unbelievably frustrating--on par with the buggy SM Railroads. The ships get stuck on land masses and LAUNCH like a rocket out of ports so you have to hit pause every time you leave a port. ANNOYING! In summary, it's too buggy and annoying for repeat play. the old Xbox version of possibly iPad version are better choices for this game. This PC original is not worth playing.

Terrible game! Extremely dated graphics for 2007 with broken physics and A.I. Terrible, just not fun at all. Nothing like the original (even ignoring the graphics). Remember, the original (Allied Assault) came out around 2001? This looks like it's using the same engine. The problem is the PhysX installation which is impossible using a more recent Nvidia driver. Maybe it runs fine with a Radeon, I wouldn't know. I would stick with the console release of this game and skip this one on Steam--it's too high maintenance.

Brought back some fond memories. I played this game to death when ti was new. Today, not so much. The graphics are too dated for it to be playable. I gave it a half hour and just couldn't keep going, compared to playing Sid Meier's Railroads!. There's some nostalgia here if you can put up with very poor graphics (for instance, train cars will "step" up and down hills rather than rotate, and shading is done with hatching rather than alpha). It was more fun before I got spoiled on newer, better versions. I recommend Sid Meier's Railroads! instead. This isn't worth even a couple bucks.

This game is fun for a quick RTS fix now and then, but I couldn't really get into it in a big way like, say, the Civilization series. I know, different genre... but I'm a fan of all strategy games. AOE 3 was not an improvement, either, imo, as I played it a couple times and then uninstalled it. Just don't like where the designers took this series. I just wanted Warcraft3-style gameplay in the vein of an ancient civilization. And, anyway, I bought this game new way back when, 2000-ish, and it's the same. If you enjoyed it then, you'll enjoy it now.

Absolutely amazing game, an all-time favorite. I've played it through a few times on the old Xbox. It's one of the most intriguing gameplay designs I've ever come across with huge replay value and sandbox play. I also enjoyed Fable 2 on the 360, was surprised by how similar it was to the original, as idiotic reviews had given it an unfair bad rep. I wish Fable 2 was available for PC.

Ugh! I'm so disappointed in this game! I played it through on the Xbox 360. What happened to the graphics on the PC/Steam version? It looks TERRIBLE in comparison to any recent game, looks more like a game from 2007. This was a downgrade from the 360 which is very surprising and although I only paid $7.50 for it, that was a waste of money because it's unplayable. I'm kind of hard on this only because the console to PC transition should be a huge UPGRADE not the reverse. This looks like a game for the Wii or PS2. I don't know what Bioware did with this release but it's barely an upgrade over the old Knight of the Old Republic (2003), with the addition of blood spatter over the low-poly models. I have settings set to maximum and have a very good PC with a Geforce GTX 660. This is unacceptable and I will be uninstalling after barely getting past the initial Warden stage. Very disappointed.

It is a shame that this game follows the excellent Arkham Asylum and Arkham City because it's 1) Nothing like the predecessors, and 2) Not fun, and 3) Annoying and anger-inducing.

I'm glad I only wasted $10 on this on sale rather than paying half or full price--which I might have after enjoying the two predecessors so much. Who would've guessed? Why would the team change the game so much from the previous ones? Who knows, but it's best to enjoy them again rather than giving this dreadful mess a try. Save yourself the headache right now and just don't bother.

This was the most fun I've had playing a new game since Skyrim (which I played for 6 months!). Tomb Raider is a fantastic game. It's pseudo-casual in a way, with some battles being a timed button game--which is OKAY, I liked it! Lots of action, some great baddies, weapon upgrades, achievements, auto-save. I do recommend playing with combat set to Normal or Hard unless you want to burn through the game quickly. I played on Easy for about 3/4 then switched to Normal and that was about just right. I was completely lost in SoD which is rare today and I loved it! 5 stars. p.s. completed 88% with 24/50 achievements on the first run. I don't feel compelled to play again although I did go back to collect items a few times.

One of my all-time favorites, but sadly it's very unstable under Windows 7 64-bit, crashes about twice an hour requiring frequent saves. I finally uninstalled but it was fun when it worked.
