I mostly enjoyed my time in La-Mulana. But you probably won't, as it's really not a very good game. For me, the biggest negative was the puzzles, as it's quite souring to the overall experience, and unfortunately you won't really see the worst ones until you've solved all the other ones. Give up on the notion you'd make it through the game hintless in advance and you won't be so disappointed. Additionally the controls are uncomfortable, and the boss fights are not designed around that, so taking damage will often feel random.

If you're a special type of person who enjoys frustration, trolls, or just value the pride of beating a game nobody else wants to put up with... you'll probably like it at least enough to beat it. But be prepared to complain about it to all your friends along the way.

If you're not that type of person, but want the experience of traversing a dungeon-like maze full of puzzles, I'd recommend The Legend of Grimrock and it's sequel, with the sequel being a bit closer in that it's got open-ended design and puzzles that require taking knowledge across the map. Contrast to this, Grimrock feels smooth as silk, while also being more clever in puzzle and enemy encounter design.

Or alternatively, you could try La-Mulana 2. It's very similar, but has a bit more polish around those rough edges. You'll die more often but those deaths will feel avoidable instead of random, and the puzzles are less devoid of information. You'll still likely get stuck and need a hint, but it's feasible to make it through on sheer hard-headedness.

If you insist on playing this game, here's some nonspecific tips: Screenshot everything you can't immediately resolve, read the manual, hit everything with your weapons and when that doesn't work, try *not* hitting things with your weapons and look for small details you may have overlooked.
