Bioshock is a masterpiece of a game. From the very first level it creates a vivid picture of its theme of freedom of choice, using Rand's theory of Objectivism as the focal point of its political commentary. just walking through the lighthouse, seeing the banner that says "no gods, no kings only man" subtlety tells you the thematic rollercoaster you're going to experience for the remainder of your playthrough. The first task you’re ever given is asked of you ‘kindly’ already setting up Ryan’s point about how you’re a slave, not a man.

The maps are beautifully designed (with Fort Frolic and Arcadia being my favourites). They are compact, but bustling with lots of goodies. Each map is very well designed with a mixture of bright joyful areas and gothic nihilistic ones. The maps are layed out very well, with it being extremely clear where the player needs to go. The maps are fun to explore for no other reason than to look in aww at the wonderful designs.

There is a variety of different weapons with each weapon having a variety of different ammo types. Each weapon feels unique with them all having a particular specialty and upgrades available. Each weapon is spaced out throughout the game, not getting too bored of your latest one, but not getting a new one before testing the limits of the last. Every weapon has things that make them the best for certain scenarios, but each also have drawbacks.

Plasmids really make you feel superhuman with a wide variety of attacks that make the game really fun. Being able to obliterate splicers with powers ranging from fire to a swarm of insects feels great. They are still balanced to not make the game too easy. Tonics can also help with a wide variety of things such as making it harder to get spotted by cameras or helping with hacking.

Enemy types (splicers) aren’t too drastically different from one another in terms of design. And how you engage with them only changes with a few variants, such as spider and Houdini splicers, although nothing too major. Enemies fit the theme of rapture very well with their masquerade masks and zany voice acting.

The Big daddy-Little sister encounters are what make BioShock what it is. The big daddies are by the far the most challenging enemy type. The two types are not that distinctly different in terms of gameplay with one being faster and one having more health. They are the most fun fights in the game and really expand each level. The choice of harvesting or rescuing the sisters adds a lot of depth to the game.

The story of BioShock is masterful. With one of the best twists in narrative fiction. It has many great antagonists such as Sander, Cohen Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine. The lore of Bioshock is second to none and rapture is one of the most interesting places in fiction. With the game having a beautiful ending if you save every Little sister

Bioshock has a few shortcomings with no collectibles and a laughably easy final boss fight. But This game shows what true art is, and is a masterpiece.

I also see a lot of reviews saying the game Is very buggy and crashes a lot. I have personally never had the game crash and haven’t experienced any bugs.
