a pretty fun platformer, that overall doesn't stay its welcome too much (well except one part in the 4th level that I had to cheese...). the gimmick is clear from the beginning, they play a bit with it here and there, and no permutation of it overstays its welcome.

if i want to be a bit critical, i can imagine this game to be harder to play for people with disabilities (color blindness comes to mind) and some flashing effects. nothing too huge, but still something i feel mentioning. with that said, i'd like to add that you need to either play with mouse + keyboard or use a controller with a right stick, as the game requires it. a bit weird for a 2d platformer, but it works!

overall, had a decent time with it, not too fussed at the length, and glad i picked it up.

fantastic spirit and aesthetics, the game looks and sounds fantastic. on top of that, it handles insanely well. it's just very fun to move about and get a combo going.

i didn't play JSRF (unfortunately) but it basically fixes every janky thing that annoys me with JSR and god this game feels good.

just buy and play the game. it's really good. i won't waste time belittling the story or gameplay, it's just a good game that you should experience.

if you're really hesitant at 7 dollars (lol) then you can wait for the game to go on sale for like a dollar. it's genuinely worth it.

it's an endearing game!

for a creature collecting game, i wasn't super fond of the actual *collecting*. i don't think the running around and recording aspect is pretty fun. the party BUILDING though is massive fun, because of how you can manage your troops. and that can land you some sick move combinations. huge fan of that aspect.

the story is pretty decent and the worldbuilding is also interesting, but the other star of the show is obviously the soundtrack, which i think they nailed.

the start of the game is decent, the middle part of the game kind of beat me down (too much to do felt overwhelming) but once i got the ball rolling, the game played itself.

overall, a pretty enjoyable experience, and i think it's worth playing

personal opinion : i struggle to get into age of mythology whenever i pick it up. i would very much rather play age of empires (specifically II definitive edition). but that's my personal opinion. because i can still tell it's a fun (and fine) game! i just personally do not like it.

normally that would be enough to still recommend it, unfortunately I gotta give it a thumbs down, because steam deck performance just is not there. it's labelled as "playable", but i had to work off an older proton version, as it does not work out of the box for me, and still has frequent crashes.

tl;dr fine game, would still tell you to play it, but steam deck performance is by all metrics abysmal.

nothing the game pulled made me care about the characters, unfortunately. i do like the worldbuilding and other little tidbits scattered here and there, but just a massive faceplant on getting me to care about anyone past their visual design.

that aside, i did like the gameplay. i do think it's fairly fun on that front. fast-paced and hectic encounters just about every mission. unfortunately, there's not a lot of variety in terms of encounter, they all amount to some level of gun down something, even if at times said things are a bit bigger. didn't get to dip my toes in co-op personally but i can see it being some amount of fun, especially since it's a different pool of missions than the "main story" ones

i think it's a decent package as a whole, worth a look at least if you like mech games. unfortunately it doesn't come close to other offerings like older armored core or mechwarrior titles, but i think it's decent on its own!

a 8-bit inspired modern take on the old school platformer genre. it sticks the landing pretty well and removes a lot of frustrations in favor of more (solid) gameplay.

the different characters are fun to play and the silliness of the game also adds a lot to the charm. would recommend it, i think it's a good offering to the genre. it really does a lot of things right, and i think you're missing out if you like retro-inspired platformers.

if you want the pure gameplay of strike suit (which is very good, to be fair) then this is the game you want. it also goes on sale for like a dollar regularly, and i think it's a killer deal at that price. not that it isn't a deal at the regular price.

i scream the names of the items out loud when they combine

off the bat : no matter what i humanly possibly could do, i could not get a controller to work in desktop mode on a steam deck

as for the actual game, this is a weird mix between a plane dogfighting game and a mech game. and you know what? it's really fun. strongly recommend people to play this. banging OST too.
