Don't buy this game unless you got $100 burning a hole in your pocket.

This franchise has been and will continue to be a money-hungry cash grab; releasing a new title every year for a whopping $70 while reusing assets from Warzone to save as much money as possible. For what? A 4-hour-long boring-ass campaign, and the same slew of ♥♥♥♥ they've been peddling for over a decade now. They specifically made MW3 a DLC so if you buy it, you have no chance of refunding it, even if you've only played the free version. Absolutely disgusting business practices. I don't even have to mention the ongoing list of bugs, glitches, and connection issues. Overall, I just see greedy corporate suits with money signs for eyes drooling over yet another copy of the same game.

BUT OMG THEY'RE BRINGING BACK ZOMBIES?? 10/10 no questions asked. God bless you Activision!

The Introduction
Where to even begin with this title. There is a lot to get into but I'll try to keep it sweet and simple. I have been playing DBD since 2016 and have garnered a few thousand hours and my review will be from the perspective of a veteran such as myself. Now, onto why I believe the BHVR team has done a pretty good job so far.

The Concept
I love the idea behind this game. It is insane how many licensed characters they have managed to lasso into this project and I find it super cool to see characters from horror classics in a multiplayer game, but here we are. I do believe that this isn't quite a "horror" game in the typical sense. There are certainly some scary elements, and you may get jumpscared a few times, but they fade and the game becomes more of a strategy game than anything else. Figuring out the nuances of the gameplay, perks, and killers throughout hours of playtime is very rewarding and fun.

The Gameplay
Gameplay itself isn't too complicated but can sometimes get repetitive. The survivors only goal is to do generators and escape so your time in a match with be a lot of holding left click and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up skill checks for 80 seconds at a time, which isn't super riveting. The fun part comes with getting chased, looping, performing mindgames, and helping your team, especially if you are on comms, which I recommend. Speaking of looping and mindgames, there is no end to the things you can pull off. Not any one game is the same as the last, whether it be by the perks you run, how the killer plays, etc. You are also constantly learning in this game. At least once every game I think to myself, "oh I could have done that better." There is no point where you are the very best you can be, and even if you were, there is no guarantee you'd win. There is a pretty high skill/learning curve but it doesn't take too long to get into the rhythm.

The Ranking System
The ranking system is and always has been a pretty confusing mess. Killers who don't belong in Irridescent rank are there, as are survivors, whether they played scummy or were carried, the game doesn't seem to particularly care. It is also extremely easy to rank up fast just by playing a lot. The new MMR system is hidden behind closed doors so we don't know what exactly we need to do to increase that number. Either way, there is no ranked mode in the game (or all of it is ranked, depending on how you look at it), but it's pretty casual for the most part, so I am not too concerned with the ranking system. Regardless, we won't be seeing much of DBD Esports antime soon, no matter what Kevin says.

The Community
The community is not the best I have seen but it isn't close to the worst either. Yes, sometimes you play with your neighborhood game throwers and keyboard smashers, but you're just as likely to play with respectable people who want to win and have fun just as much as you do. Even if you do play with some rotten apples, at least there isn't a chat option until the game is already over. Overall, as long as you don't get upset easily or take part in the community yourself, I would say it is nothing to worry about.

The Bugs
If you've heard of DBD, you've probably also heard of the bugs that come along with it. Game crashes and disconnect errors are more common than they should be. Getting stuck, launching yourself far away, literally no-clipping, it's all here, baby. To the credit of the devs, it is not even close to the hell we had to deal with even back in 2018. Yes, there will be bugs and glitches in a constantly updated massively played multiplayer game. Does that excuse them from happening? No, but they don't happen as often as other reviews may have you believe. I'll probably go 10, 20, 30 matches before even a single issue occurs, and it may not even be a big issue, certainly not a game breaking one. However, it would be misleading to say this game isn't without it's flaws.

The Conclusion
If you're even slightly interested in the concept of this game, buy it. It is only $20 and I've played much worse for much more. It's a fun way to pass the time especially if you have friends or other people to play with!

This game's premise is a fine concept on paper, but in reality, it is full of various faults. Even the devs know this which is why they continuously make drastic changes to the game. The labyrinth upgrade system is painfully boring and slow, as is leveling up. You will likely be matched with players significantly above or below your skill level, unless you queue for ranked. Although, casual play is the only viable option for people who cannot stand to queue for longer for a match than the match, itself, takes. On that note, the community is barely even that-- it is obnoxiously toxic and mindbogglingly stubborn. Now is a good time to point out that most of your matches will be infested with trolls, micspammers, racists, and other unsavory flavors of people from around the world. This is obviously not particularly beneficial for a game with such a dwindling playerbase. I've probably heard the most slurs playing this game than I have in any other, and I've played Rust. Now, let's talk about the actual gameplay elements:

It's pretty bad, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You have an extremely limited amount of time, even less when players (infected or not) destroy fuseboxes. This certainly does not give you enough time to deduce much of anything unless you play with a competent team, which is equal to trying to find a small crystal amongst a sea of broken glass. Regardless, as an innocent, you will likely be subjugated to several matches of being voted out by your team because you were downed first. There is no logic in the game, only who can shoot faster. Gathering information is useless as the other people you are playing with will either ignore you or shout over you enough to get you voted out, which is frustrating as is. Playing as infected feels groggy and slow. The only thing separating if you win or lose is if you have control of the antidote/lethal injection or not (which are the most overpowered things in this game for some reason). This is true for innocents, too.

At the time of writing this, I have 164 hours played and that number will never go up past this point as far as I can see. I am uninstalling and forgetting about this game until the devs make major changes to both the gameplay, and the reporting system. The only thing redeemable about this game is the loot booth system and character customization, but in my opinion, it's too little, too late. All-in-all, it is a free to play game, so download and play it if you are curious, but like most, you'll probably play a few matches and immediately uninstall it unless you have other friends to play with.

Bad game, not worth the time it thinks it deserves. Do not play unless you enjoy being frustrated. 3/10.

If you've played the last 3 games, at least FC3, you've played this one.

Still a good game, so if you haven't played the other games, worth the buy on sale

Edit: Got a few more hours under my belt, so gonna go a bit more in depth

Pros:
Environment is definitely well-established.
Scenery, people, culture, and wildlife are all done extremely well, but what's expected from a FarCry game.

Transportation is fun.
Flying is definitely the most fun in any game when going point A to point B. The 'auto-navigate' option was also a nice addition since the first game.

Fluid combat.
Not much to say here. The combat is done right, and the abilities you unlock make it more interesting than just run a gun game.

Cons:
Repetitive.
Basically everything that isn't a campaign mission is repetitive. Whether grinding animal skins, liberating bases, climbing radio towers, taking quests from civilians, and more. It's still fun, but it gets tedious after a while. There is also so much ♥♥♥♥. I like getting 100% completion in games, but FC games seem to be loaded with random ♥♥♥♥ all over the place, your your map will look like a 15-year-olds pubescent face.

No penalty for death.
Most times, you don't even go back to a safe zone, just a meters from where you died like nothing ever happened. If you fail a mission, you simply restart the mission automatically.

Easy upgrade system.
I'm only a 4th way through the game and have crafted most of the items you can, which is nearly everything. Money is really easy to get, so ammo, guns, attachments, maps, and other items are really not a problem.

Wingsuit glitches.
These are rage-inducing. Running off a high ledge sometimes automatically deploys the wingsuit out of nowhere, resulting in death.

Final thought and score
Although there are a lot of cons, overall, worth the buy when on sale. Even if not, still worth a shot.

7/10

I was a big fan of Ori and the Blind Forest, so when I saw this game, I had to have it

The soundtrack is stunning, the world is gorgeously hand drawn, and the gameplay is smooth while having weight to it
Hits feel powerful, and gathering coins feels extremely satisfying. Combat is simple yet challenging, and the addition of charms reminds me of classic indie games such as Binding of Isaac.
Enemies are unique to each area, and every area has an entirely different feel than the one before it.
The difficultly is at a perfect level. It's not rage-inducing, however it does challenge you.
Exploring is rewarding, though at times it's hard to make up your mind as there are so many different directions you could go

Not many negative things to say about the game. The controls are set up in a bit of an awkward way, but that's really it so far

I love it. Such a great game and 100% woth it fo the price. 10/10 would reccomend

An odd game in a good way.
The mechanics are something I've never seen before. The amount of effort that you would have to go through so every creature in the game could have another ability and animate that is just ludicrous.
Short, but full of story. Easily replayable for achievements, secrets and other gameplay styles.

From someone who loves Dishonored and has played it countless times, here's my opinion, with a few comparisons

The atmosphere is amazing, and it's a game that is definitely pleasing to look at. Moreso than Dishonored, but graphics aren't everything. There are a lot of nice elements to the game. Whereas in Dishonored you can run for the most part without being spotted, in this you have to rely heavily on dark areas and crouching. This leads to several tense moments. It's also difficult to defend yourself if you're caught, so you either have to run or use other tactics to distract them away from you. Like in Dishonored, the AI on medium difficulty is lack-luster and follow the rules that if you're in the dark, they don't see you, even if they are staring at you. The dialogue is repeated several times at points as well. The maps are cramped but still a lot to explore even so. Gathering coins feels so satisfying, though the animation can get annoying after picking up a 1000+ items, and checking every nook and cranny for 5 gold. The fact you can't jump seems extremely odd, and is the only thing I have a real problem with. If you could jump and move freely across the maps, I would like this game much more. This is a neutral review, either from the fact it reminds me a lot of a game I adore, or that the pros and cons manage to equal themselves out. I would still reccomend picking it up if and when it goes on sale
