An updated review:
Risk of Rain 2 has seen one of the best development tracks I've ever seen, the devs are involved and are happily involving the community in a deal of their decisions.

ROR2 is one of my favorite roguelikes of the last 10 years. The gameplay is solid, movement feels good and abilities feel balanced, without items that is. Once you start getting a good deal of items and stack their effects up a bit, you will feel like an absolute GOD and that's supposed to be like that! How cool is that? The game is begging you to stack items up way too much and become a god among your fellow players.

The gameplay loop is satisfying, no single run ever feels the same and if you do want to introduce some stability into your runs you can do so through an alternate set of items that have a currency which carries along between games. Catch is, they're a risk-reward type of item, so they'll never be -too- strong.

Every character feels unique, the items are fun and most of them serve a purpose in a certain character's kit (bustling fungus being notorious for fitting with only one character).

Overall a very good game with a great future ahead of it, seeing how the devs plan to release more content after launch.
