The game is as fun as it is cheap.

Early Access Review
*Hides playing time*
Yeah I guess you could say I like it...

-- TL;DR --

Buy it if you:
- Enjoy spending an hour or 2 sorting through monsters and items to make a team
- Don't mind "the balance comes from everything being overpowered" style games
- Like Pokemon but would rather it wasn't made for 3 year olds
- Have crippling autism

DON'T buy it if you:
- Don't like grinding
- Value your precious time in this mortal coil

BTW: I'm writing this before the first (? big update after entering EA so if anything's outdated by then RIP.

Cons:

- Bugs
I've only encountered 2 types of bugs: Spells, traits or perks that conflict with each other / straight up not working (One that comes to mind is the Purgatorian's murder of crows perk overriding the Meat Bomb trait from one of the maniacs; or Master of Occultists consuming charges even tho it shouldn't... or only working for a couple of the fights in a realm... or only working throughout a whole realm but not working again on the next)

And the other is attacks or spells randomly dealing 0 damage if there's too many actions in a turn? I think? Although I've seen this happen even before the "can only take damage 20 times per turn" cap is hit, so I'm not sure if it's a bug with certain team comps or if there's some math bs going on in the background.

- UI/New player experience
Thankfully the devs have already added things like a search function and a "New" sorting option to the laundry list for the next update but there's still some problems, things like the summoning candle being annoying to use since the monster list resets after every creature you summon ayy lmao it got changed ; or some spells straight up not appearing in the codex (I.E. Tormented Banshee gains "Death Blossom" at the start of battle but if I check the codex I only see "Dark tranquility -> Death's call -> Debilitate")
I presume this is because I need to buy the spell from one of the gods to unlock it, but if a monster has a spell tied to their trait, the description should be shown in its creature sheet.

Another thing that would be good to have is the option to show the calculations for attacks/buffs/debuffs in the battle history; or a full bestiary that shows which monsters you haven't seen yet (with a crossed out name and a black sillhouette maybe). You can kinda do this already by looking at the cards album and seeing how many monsters of a specific race you're missing but it'd be nice to know for all of them.

Maybe also adding a small menu on the left side of the screen while in a battle and attacking or casting a spell that shows the traits of the monster you're hovering since there's a good amount of empty space after the actions menu goes away, and it'd cut down the use of Inspect a lot.

- Grinding... I guess?
Not that big of a deal for me, but it'd be cool if resource gains were bumped up slightly; same with card drop chance since I remember genØciding an entire population of Stag Guardians before they dropped their precious card.

- Misc
I've had to start saving before performing fusions simply because a good number of times the sprites will not match the colors seen in the menu AT ALL, altho i'm not sure the devs can do much about this other than manually fixing these combinations or adding more options for the way the color palettes are used.
Random slow downs while walking around a realm that go away after a little while or when going into a battle.
The map is terrible; either have an option to zoom out and have it show the whole realm or add the option to have it show on screen like a minimap.

Pros:

- Music
Great music for the most part with a ton more that you can unlock for your castle... Just make sure to turn battle music off or you'll go insane from the constant resetting

- Content
I have ~240 hours on the game so far and i'm not even remotely done with it. I've only tried 11 of the 25 specializations; haven't fought half of the gods in the Gate of the Gods; haven't tried out any of the arenas apart from the standard one, haven't finished with the Nether bosses... that's also not counting things like cards or skins that I've yet to unlock... and the game is still in early access.

- Gameplay and team building
The gameplay is pretty simple once you get the hang of things, but the good thing is that you can choose how difficult you want to make it on yourself. Wanna spank cheeks? grab a firebrand or make a diabolical horde team and hold E. Wanna make it hard on yourself? build a team around hunkering down, managing your spell gem uses, and trying to survive the fight until battle fatigue turns your enemies into dementia-riddled husks that you can kill by breathing near them. Wanna go full autist? make a team around vibe checking your own allies and buffing one giga chad monster with the help of macros that took you 3 hours to set up.

- Customization
Too much info showing up in battles? is the walking speed too slow for you? are the loot notifications annoying you? wanna disable attack animations for faster fights and easy grinding? you can change all of that.

As I mentioned before, there are skins for (almost) all of your monsters (and also for you) that you can unlock and they're also affected by fusion color changes.

There's also a castle decoration mode if you're into that; altho I haven't bothered to do much apart from changing the walls, floors and music; putting up a couple of paintings of torun; and spamming menorahs all around the place.
But hey, if you wanna turn this game into the Sims, go ahead.

- Monsters
Well duh, it's a creature collection game so you'd hope they're good.

Monster variety is great, including but not limited to:
Mid-life crisis yetis with receiding hairlines, rabbit squirrel deer with wings and chicken legs that sometimes has demon horns, jihadi bug men, boomer cloud, baby-wielding spectres, self-mutilating slimes, LifeSavers with hands, conjunctivitis-riddled eyeball angels, flying gas masks covered in fart clouds, C̸͔͋̀ͅU̷͍̩̝̘̐ͅB̸̡̪̞̪̟͔͚̗̫͖̀̈͑̋̚͝Ȩ̷̗͙̠̺̓͌̚, and easter island head.

- Practically everything else that isn't in the cons list

All in all, game good.

Well ♥♥♥♥, I bought the game because it was cheap and had trading cards... really didn't expect to run into an obscure gem.

Haven't gotten too far just yet, only decapitated the first dojo master (and simultaneously died to him) but the unique art style and dry humor instantly hooked me; and being able to execute tax collectors compelled me to recommend the game.

Something something die.

Haven't put too much time into it yet but I'm posting the review because Steam is telling me to.

That being said, just from the 4 hours i've played, I can tell this game is fantastic.

Great aesthetic, satisfying sound design, tons of fun guns and gadgets to try out, has a co-op mode, it's still getting updates, and it's simply fun to get obliterated by giant futuristic tanks so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lovely game. Cute, fun, interesting and varied levels, has modding support...

Highly recommended unless you absolutely hate 3D platformers.
