As you can tell from my hours on this game, I spent quite a bit on this game (although not as much as others), and I feel like I should say a thing or two about it.

Terraria is a top-tier game and something everyone should experience for themselves. That mysterious feeling of creating a new world and playing almost never disappears no matter how much you play. That feeling you get when you beat a boss against all odds. The feeling you get when you finally complete the game on either vanilla difficulty; this feeling is especially amplified when you play with some sort of challenge. The best feeling, in my opinion, is the feeling of accomplishment whenever any sort of progression occurs. And this game is not short of that progressive curve. Besides the end game, there is no stage in the game where you tell yourself "this is the furthest I can go." There is always a step forwards. That's what makes this game so alive even after so long.

Besides the base game itself, there is a plethora of insanely good mods. My personal favorite would be Calamity, a mod that easily adds over a hundred hours of gameplay, especially with the insanely hard difficulty that is added alongside the mod. On top of that, almost every boss in the mod has its own theme; something even the vanilla game doesn't have. That tells you leagues about how passionate the community that surrounds this masterpiece is about this game.

Overall:
The game is a masterpiece in every way you can think of. The gameplay is astounding and refreshing. The atmosphere is beautiful to the point it becomes unsettling. The soundtrack is relaxing, even during boss fights. There is a minimal amount of story within the game, but this only adds to the fact that the game was meant to be a sandbox.

No matter who you are, where you are, where you're from, this showpiece of the platforming genre is something that you cannot miss out on.
