Early Access Review
This game is great. it's fast, frenetic, ridiculously quick and rather fun. The pacing is well done and the variety of items makes sure that you always have a unique run, from the 'somewhat worthless' round to the 'ridiculously fast and god mode' run. It's recommended if you like roguelike games.

My original review was a lot more negative than it should have been.

Yes, I had some weird file corruption issues a long while ago but.. They have been rectified.

Now the real review!

Subnautica is my example of an indie game done right. It's like a nega-No Man's Sky. It didn't need to totally relaunch itself to be good, it didn't need to build itself up on the hype of not telling the audience crap and then overloading expectations to move copies.

Subnautica is a labor of love that you can see all over the game. Every biome that has been added shows the hand crafted joy and discovery that a real open world game should have. Every update shows tha tthe developers actually pay attention and know what to do in order to keep their fans happy. Atmospherically, this game can range from relaxing and a joy to explore to the most pants crappingly scary thing I've ever felt in a game.

Creature design that's good, awesome world design, interesting lore, and frequent updates? All of this is something I never thought an early access would be able to consistently hammer out, but Subnautica delivers. And they deliver all the time. Yes, things get delayed or removed, but I have no doubt the developers are doing what they do because it'll help the game. And it shows.

Play this game.

Also, the devs pay attention to these reviews, which shows they actually care. Good on you, guys. I'll always be supporting this game.

This game is complicated. Let's open with that. Like, this game is brutal in how much it hates you winning. When you first start, unlike SimCity, you probably will lose. A lot. It's not a bad thing, it's trial and error. But it's rewarding! After 10 attempts, I got a city (renamed to "Actually Working") that's raking in the cash. I do recommend it, but not for impatient people.

I call this game the original Mirrors Edge. An amazing storyline, amazing concept, utterly unique (especially for it's time!), but ♥♥♥♥♥♥ marketing. Thanks to that last slipup, this game was a sleeper hit, so not many people were really aware of this one until after the three month marketing was done. However! I preordered it when nintendo power bragged about it. Was never regretting that one. This game is deep, and I mean DEEP. One of the first great conspiracy stories in video games, expertly told with an underground, veneer peeling vibe. Not to give anything away, but the light and colorful starting world goes far beyond itself, showing how everything truly is. As philosophical as the title book was (Nietzche, don't get much more philosophical!), this story hits pretty close.
But for you gameplay oriented people out there, this game is still good. It takes a bit of time to get used to antiquated controls and glitches, as this game was FAR smaller than most modern ones, but it created many of the engines later used. The camera support is very nice, the combat is fairly set up (but simple), but the majority of the game relies on caring about the world and the story, so if you like a good tale? Play this game. Help make them WANT to make the sequel we all need.

I cannot recommend Fallout highly enough. The world itself is stylish, handled with the utmost care to show many real world locations despite the utter annihilation of the rest of the universe. The weapons are varied and unique, spread all over and given a great time for you to search. the graphics, while not award winning, are still imperssive enough to make me immersed in the world. And, for once, the DLC was not a sign of scorn for me, more of a sign that the developers had so many ideas they had more work to do after launch.

that being said, this game does glitch (Euclid's C-finder, anyone?) and that can really screw you up if you're in stride. But that is a minor problem (since it rarely seems to get gamebreaking when it doe shappen) compared to the interesting characters and great gameplay that Bethesda has managed to put into this game.
Pro: awesome world, gameplay, weapons, veronica santangelo.
con: some glitches.
worth it.
