Review of Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has sparked diverse opinions since its release, but after completing the game with over 75 hours of playtime, I’m convinced this is a powerful entry in the series.

Key Points:

Story & Characters

Classic Dragon Age elements shine in a rich narrative about ancient elven gods. The storyline unfolds like a binge-worthy Netflix series, with engaging plot points, epic set pieces, and memorable missions.

The final mission was one of the best I’ve experienced in a game, bringing together all choices and actions up to that point in meaningful ways. During this mission, the choices feel weighty and impactful, highlighting the adventure’s depth.

Companions

Despite critics’ claims that the companions feel unimportant, each one shines if approached with an open mind. Emmerich, in particular, was a standout for me—his quests and story were among my favorites. Harding, my love interest, felt like a storybook romance that fit perfectly with the game’s tone. Bellaria, who I initially expected to dislike, surprised me and became one of the most enjoyable characters to interact with. Each companion quest felt unique and true to their personalities, adding depth and variety to the experience.

The game’s puzzles did feel repetitive at times, except for a few standout ones, but this minor drawback didn’t detract from the overall experience.

DEI and LGBTQ Elements

While topics of gender and LGBTQ+ representation appear in the game, they’re a small part of the overall experience, taking up perhaps 15 minutes of my playthrough. They don’t overshadow the main adventure, which focuses on the epic journey, characters, and choices.

Gameplay & Combat

Three main classes (Warrior, Mage, Rogue) with unique skill trees that encourage replayability.
The AI performed well enough but wasn’t exceptional.

Visuals, Music & Performance

Exceptional detail, stunning settings, and unmatched textures and lighting. The Veilguard is visually the best game I’ve played this year, with smooth performance even in graphically intense scenes.
The music was epic, adding intensity and depth to every moment.

Over 75 hours in, I was continually impressed by the game’s smooth performance.

Conclusion:
Overall, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a well-crafted, epic RPG adventure. Its story, characters, and immersive world-building offer an unforgettable experience, and the final mission brings everything together in a powerful, satisfying way. For fans and RPG lovers, this is a must-play.
