An impressive, gritty, oppressive industrial world where you never feel truly safe.

Firstly I'd like to point out the amazing sound design - the noises the enemies make are forever burned in my brain along with the Med-Bay soundtrack, "Prisoner", by Stumfol - which I unironically listen to almost every day after beating this game, since the lyrics make perfect sense not only in the game world, but also in the current 2020 COVID world.

I love how the lore is told with simple background/environment things. The gameplay is very reminiscent of ARPG and follows the Souls-like formula quite well, where you start as a complete weakling at the start, but at the end you become this powerhouse unstoppable killing machine (which will occasionally still die, but you recognize your own mistakes).

Enemy attacks can be hard to counter/parry at times, but still makes for engaging and smart combat with the limb targetting system, which ties in perfectly with the world building and choosing whether you want to kill him quickly (unarmored limbs) or you want to grab their armor pieces (armored limbs).

You can feel a bit lost sometimes because the world is quite huge and interconnected, and since some places look really similar and industrialized, it's hard to distinguish where you came from, but nothing impossible to navigate.

The ending felt satisfying but also left me wanting more, I'm definitely playing The Surge 2 since I can't have enough of this world. I hope Deck13 keep making awesome games like this and bringing their own twist to the ARPG genre.

Note: This is my brother's review, I'm posting it here due to the review restriction on shared family library. He had about 20 hours of gameplay as of writing this.
