I enjoyed myself, but... FUMES has a lot of weird design decisions going on for me, personally. Not having fine control over which missions are available on top of EVERY boss fight being anticlimactic combined into a strangely linear progression experience: Collect cargo > drop cargo off > check gear levels > collect cargo... In my opinion, this sticking point is exacerbated by the somewhat limited options you have. In what universe would I use, say, any weapon other than the Orkan for dealing with Overseers, when its one downside doesn't exist?

Don't get me wrong, FUMES was a great time. I'm optimistic about how it will develop. If it has even 50% more gear options at release, it will be a very strong contender.

Not having custom difficulty ready to go is... a decision. Especially with the ability to see exact values for the implemented difficulty settings.

Secrets of Gloomrot has elevated V Rising to be one of my favorite games of all time, and it's not even finished yet. In terms of multiplayer-focused survival games, there's no competition, and the layers of complexity and build diversity added by jewels and ancestral weapons is indicative of the game moving in the perfect direction for improvement. V Rising is worth buying and playing right now, and if you aren't convinced, it's worthy of your attention when it's further along in development.

Honestly? You don't need my opinion on this game. We are not close to the same person, and you will never be like me. As far as I understand it, the lens through which I view games varies greatly from most.

That being said, I adore Elden Ring. My primary character is level 125 at the time I write this, and both the PvP and PvE at my level are very compelling, even with Moonveil users in the mix (and there are a lot of you).

I have a very high tolerance to games with high barriers to entry, and that has worked in my favor with Elden Ring, as it is firmly one of them. Elden Ring might not be for everyone. It probably isn't for some people that expect it to be for them. But it IS very, very much for me, and I hope this note aids someone when it comes to making a decision on the game.

Oh, I absolutely adore this game. 1.1 seems to have addressed most of my initial complaints, although I do wish that progressing very far into an Endless run didn't simply result in more than half of the enemies in a given level becoming Medusae. I wouldn't even necessarily mind it if there were simply some other enemy type that also fit into a similar difficulty rating. I'm very excited for the day that modding support is added.

I am by no means an expert at this game, and my experience in the base game is fairly limited. However, I think Rivals is a perfect distillation of what the game represents packaged in a new, arguably more interesting form. In my opinion, no single player experience offered in this game nor its sequel comes anywhere close to what Rivals offers, and Curious Expedition is worth owning just because it exists.

The Ascent is a little expensive for what it is, and on top of that, the RPG elements are about as deep as a puddle. No gear randomization and no decision making within the confines of the story means that main progression is extremely linear. Oh, you're in X area? The enemies can drop these pieces of equipment. Oh, you just reached a new area? Great! By the way, shops don't sell anything new. Enjoy your pistol/smg/assault rifle/shotgun for the first few hours of the game. The only notable exception to this that I'm aware of is the Strobos, and that isn't even worth purchasing.

I've been having a good time with The Ascent despite its issues, but I'm quite far from recommending it. A lot of the less key design decisions are questionable. Why prompt the player EVERY TIME when they go to sell the last copy of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ revolver they started the game with? Why have 75% of the augmentations scale with cybernetics, so that a character heavily invested in any other stat group needs to look extremely diligently to find augmentations worth using? Why is the camera focusing on something completely irrelevant to the gameplay while I'm in combat?

The game is middling, but can be fun if you're playing with friends. I personally think too much effort went into making it look good instead of going elsewhere. The combat itself is fairly solid, but it's no SYNTHETIK 2. If the game elements meshed better, it would truly be exceptional. As The Ascent stands now, the combat is simply good.

Alright, alright. I'm editing this because the issues surrounding 1.27 happened a while back, and apparently are no longer relevant. Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, a proper sequel instead of, let's say... Dark Souls 3. It represents a proper evolution from the first game, both mechanically and story-wise. That being said, you can still use certain moves to cheese the game (I'm looking at you, axes) and become successful without learning how to actually play, as I did. If you liked (or even wanted to like) Nioh, Nioh 2 is definitely worth trying out,
