The monetization scheme is unfortunate, but the gameplay is absolutely top-notch. It's disappointing that customization is extremely locked down until you either buy what you want in a rotating store, and that the battle passes are going to take a hot minute to grind through. I will throw 343 a bone and say that it's great that they're not making battle passes expire. That's a pro-consumer choice, but the Fortnite-style rotating skin store where you have to pay $20 to unlock the color white is absolutely not.

Beyond that, holy crap does this feel good. Combat is crisp, the visuals are great if not stunning in the Big Team Battle, and the sandbox is very well balanced. There's improvements to be made of course, like getting more vehicles in Big Team Battle, nitpicks around specific weapons like how the gravity hammer doesn't feel like it should, and several other things the community has pointed out. But it's great as it is. If the game dropped as it is now and had forge, we'd practically be set.

Halo is back, baby.

And please let the singleplayer be good.

So, Quake is very good. I think we all know that. I'd just like to focus on the most recent update.

First off: Turn off VSync and thank me later. Moving your mouse feels like wading through molasses until it's turned off. Honestly not sure why they make it default to on when the game runs so darn well and nobody with human eyes would notice tearing.

I've never seen Quake look better. It looks fresh and clean, and the updated models actually look really good. They do not give me flashbacks to the updated Half Life Source models, so props to the folks who worked on them.

However, there's a few gripes I have just in the first 30 minutes of playing.

First off, binding jump to scroll wheel down doesn't really work as well as it does in source ports like Quakespasm. It makes jumping really finicky, and it only actually makes me jump maybe 1/10th of the time. I can still bunnyhop with space bar, but it just not as smooth without scroll wheel jumping.

Most importantly, I'd really, really like per-weapon key binds. It's possible I just missed that part of the menu, and I'm sure there's a way to rebind keys with commands, but in a game refresh in 2021, it should really be possible to bind weapon keys in the UI.

And finally, it'd be really neat if we could get some Doom Eternal style render modes. I'd love it if this version were the one-stop shop for every person's preference, with some preferring software rendering due to nostalgia, or 4k with updated models and newer rendering types. It'd be fun to even get goofy ones like black and white, heavily pixelated, or "F*$# Brown" where it shifts brown tones to the color of your choice. :P

All in all, it could use some spit shine here or there, but I can finally recommend somebody play the official retail Quake version over a source port. Speaking of which, thank God daddy Reznor is back, too. For the unaquainted, that means the official soundtrack is finally packed in automatically.

Terminator: Resistance feels like a classic game from 5-10 years ago. While the graphics are dated the mechanics, the well-designed progression, and art direction give it excellent atmosphere and *game feel*. The world feels oppressive at first but the campaign quickly progresses into a story of hope. And while several plot points and twists are extremely obvious, particularly to T1 and T2 fans, it still wraps up satisfyingly. In my mind this is the canon ending to T1 and T2, albeit with B-movie voice acting and awkward facial animation.

While this game at first comes off as a Unity asset flip, I'm happy to say it has a lot of heart. It's very heavily influenced by Quake, with a movement system somewhere between Q3 and CPMA movement. It feels really good to move around the maps, and the engine is pretty lenient when your head or sides clip through objects, letting you keep your momentum.

The gunplay isn't really anything to write home about, but it gets the job done. And the BFG weapon of the game is basically the Q3 plasma gun. Don't get me wrong, it feels pretty darn good but it doesn't do anything particularly special.

I managed to 100% the game in less than an hour, but your mileage may vary. If you just want something to complete very quickly this is it. If you need help with 100% here's a little help: The only secret that was particularly hard to find was the first one-there's a button behind the angel in the starting room on the first level. Hope that helps someone.

I will say that the game doesn't feel particularly balanced on Hard mode, and weapons fit into their roles better on Normal. I'm pretty sure the only difference is enemies take more damage to kill, and you take fewer hits. This is pretty much the brute force approach for making a game more difficult, but since this is an indie game for a low price I'm gonna let it slide.

It sure as hell isn't Dusk but it's a competently well made little shooter for two bucks. I'm not complaining.

This game deserves it's rating on Steam. Quick, deep action mechanics, solid performance (if you're not trying to use Raytracing, as that's still unplayable with it turned on on my 2060) and a classic cyberpunk story and aesthetic of future corporations gone rogue. It's a little like Katana Zero met Titanfall 2, and it feels good.
