the best thing to do is play the newlight experience for free. then decide if you want to drop money on the forsaken and shadow keep expansions.

personally, the free to play portion is quite nice, there is a lot you can do. i wouldn't have advised buying the game and the 1st 2 expansions because they all provide tid bits of content. but today as newlight, having the base game and basically the first 2 expansions for free means there is a lot of content to play for free and makes buying forsake and shadowkeep not seem like such a big money grab :)

tldr. play for free, it's got a lot of freee content. then you can decide if you want to buy rest. i have enjoyed the f2p portion heaps. i intend on buying forsaken and shadow keep later when i have finished everything there is to do in the free portion.
