I've been playing Mortal Kombat since the original on my Sega Genesis back in the day. The story has always been crazy, but Mortal Kombat 1's story is funny, action-packed, and of course a lot of fun. The game itself is beautifully made, have no idea how Netherrealm Studios keep one-upping themselves, but they keep doing it.

Cross progression works really well and just requires you to link your Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and/or Nintendo accounts to your WB Games account to work. There's some minor stuttering during cutscenes on the PC version, which doesn't exist on Xbox; hopefully that'll get fixed in a future update, but the gameplay is solid. The game also looks great on PC using a 32:9 Odyssey Neo G9 (2022 version) display and RTX 4090.

tl;dr MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!

If you need to play a game that humbles your soul, play NERTS! Online against your friends. My strategy is to clear the NERTS pile, but that won't help you. Save yourself, don't play this game. You're downloading it, aren't you? You're about to open it, aren't you?

Despite a few rough edges, this game has a ton of potential. My friends and I have been having fun collecting ores, smelting ores into ingots, then going back to get more only to die a horrible death at some new creature lurking in the swamp. If you don't mind dying and spending an hour to run (or sail) back to your tombstone to reclaim your items, this game might not be for you. Also, learn how to make portals as early as possible.
