First of all after playing WT for allmost 10 years and spending 750 hrs (steam counted only) ingame and close the amount of money, i love the game. I mostly play Air RB and Sim, so i can't speak for tanks.
In those 10 years i never encountered a cheater (not that i can tell), the game has very cool and iconic vehicles, old ww2 warbirds and modern F16, the game is easy to play but hard to master. That's what i love about this game.

The reason why i don't recommend the game (at least at the time of writing) is the immense grind you have to go through to get even close to top tier. The grind for Rank 1-4 maybe Rank 5 vehicles is ok, but as soon as you get to Rank 6-8 you can't even progress an inch without premium time, prem vehicles (Rank 6-> 60€ | Rank 7 -> 70€) or both. If you buy a Rank 7 Prem for every nation (10 Nations) you'll spend 700 € + 1 year prem time ~100€ (and yes trust me, you need that time).
There are two currencys to worry about: Research Points and Silver Loins. With RP a vehicle is researched then bought using SL. Ohh Boi the rate at getting SL is so painfully slow, despite playing with prem vehicles and prem time.

If you want to play a modern Jet fighter game, keep on searching and pls tell me when you found one, but if you have no promlem processing through the ranks and grind for days, here is my advice: pick 3 nations and go to Rank 5, then wait for a sale (around xmas, everything is 50% off) and get yourself prem time, maybe even a prem vehicle, but be warned: at the state the game is RN you almost don't move forward exceeding Rank 5 without investing money.
