Genuinely tried to like this as I was a big fan of previous saint's rows but could not get into it.

Physics felt off and gunplay (at least with a mouse and keyboard) felt horrid. Maybe it's better with a controller but I dunno. The few missions I played felt lacking and uninteresting. Compare that to how Saints Row 2, 3 or 4 introduce you to the game and it has a hard time dragging you in from the start.

But combining that with the game feel just being off I cannot recommend what I played. Maybe it gets good right after I stopped but I have my doubts.

One of the most disappointing experiences I've had with a game. But I suppose that's my fault for getting excited about anything.

It's fine. But always online, no server search, the game being unfinished, and releasing paid DLCs WHILE IT'S UNFINISHED is a kick in the teeth. Wait 5 years until maybe it's decent and for a sale if you wanna try it.

I try so hard to enjoy this game. I have played the game twice and I cannot stand it.

Pros:
  • World design feels sublime. Love the atmosphere of it.
  • Bows feel just as powerful as they should. You shoot someone, they die. Easy as that.
  • Graphics are nice. Not mindblowing or anything but they work fine and represent the world well.
  • Voice acting is good and the story is fine. Not a great story but passable enough to make me wanna see more. Though after the whole Cuman camp thing I started dropping off it.

Cons:
  • Combat is clunky and sucks. I know "GIT GUD" but legit it's bad. I never felt like it was worthwhile to fight anything optional. All combat eventually boils down to is either you masterstrike or you get masterstruck. And Masterstrikes take forever to kill so it's moreso wondering if you have the patience to kill the guy rather than difficulty. Combos are worthless and all they do is play a dumb animation. Lock on is terrible at actually focusing the enemy you want if there's more than one guy. Meanwhile in 1v1 the game is braindead easy but that may be because I am good at masterstrikes so I get hit like twice total in a 1v1 if I mess up bad.. There's never a good balance.
  • Limited Visor Visibility is stupid. I know it's realistic but damn is it annoying. Mods fix that though.
  • Saving being limited to an item that is alcoholic. This wouldn't be too bad, I actually don't mind limited saving overall if it wasn't for:
  • Randomly breaking your legs. The amount of times I have walked down stairs in a way that for some reason snap off Henry's legs is absurd. And, of course, my last save was half an hour ago because of the save system so I can't be prepared for something like that. There's also the occasional "Get launched for no reason." (Note: Very rare. Only happened like three times in my whole 40+ hours) If the game expects perfection from me then I expect perfection from the game.
  • Personal preference but eating and sleeping feel tacked on and boring. I never really had an issue with not having enough food. I just find it annoying when I need to stop what I'm doing to shove a loaf of bread in my face.
  • The game is slow. Fast travel is slow, sleeping is slow, walking through town is slow. While I get it's to make you immersed man I just wanna play the game sometimes. Just let me get to the tournament or something.

I'm real hopeful for a sequel or something to improve these issues but to be perfectly honest I kinda doubt it. So many people constantly praise the combat and maybe they're right and it's just not for me. And that's fine. Just if any of this sounds like an issue to you, I'd recommend avoiding the game or maybe getting it on a steep sale.

Ultrakill is incredibly fun. I beat the full game that has been released as the time of writing this in about 4 hours and I enjoyed roughly 3.95 hours of it. The last bit were minor rooms I mildly didn't care for.

Pros:
- Visually wonderful
- Great OST
- Weapons feel very impactful and distinct. Especially with the quick swap alt fire.
- Blood heal mechanic incentivises you to play aggressive and close which is great for my usual way of playing games. But the hard damage mechanic makes it so you can't just face tank and shotgun. You need to dodge for a bit to let the hard damage heal off before being able to heal to full.
- Bosses are a fun challenge and most enemies are in that sweet spot of being just hard enough in a group to give you trouble if you're not careful, but not too hard that it feels unfair.
- The combo mechanic incentivises you to swap weapons mid combat. While I had some trouble keeping up with swapping weapons, especially when I could just use shotgun, it was still great and lead to me quick swapping more and was a good learning tip to swap constantly for whatever gun fits best in your current situation.

Cons:
- Parrying can blind you if you're parrying back to back. Several times the white flash would cause me to not be able to see anything in more intense fights. Minor issue, of course. I would like an option to make the parry sound more distinct and remove the flash.
- I hate the sand. It kinda ruins the "Aggressive gameplay incentivised" thing I mention in pros. Not too common but any time it pops up I am not a big fan.
- Several areas have drastically different lighting. Not bad overall but I really hated certain areas being hard to see for me. Though that may have been my gamma settings at the time.

Overall? Highly recommend! Though if you're not that good at these kinds of shooters, you may wanna either wait for a sale to try it out or look up some gameplay. I'd gladly say it's worth the money so far and it's still got more coming!

Good game. I really enjoyed it! I really enjoyed the cult management and the combat is fun. I know some hate that it's two buttons for combat but I personally enjoyed it a good chunk.

The art style is top tier and I find it super cute! Not to mention that the darker themes in the game feel very interesting! Especially with how well it contrasts with the rather cutesy style. I know a lot of games have that going for them but what can I say? I'm a sucker for it.

Overall: Good game. Buy it. Worth money.

Honestly I found this game pretty fun! It does require a decent bit of music knowledge but overall it's pretty good! It'll ask you to do things like repeat back notes and such but it has a ton of visual queues to make it so it doesn't just feel like random guessing if you're not musically inclined.

Overall I'd recommend. Pretty short but pretty fun! Also the art style is very cute!

Very very good game! There are a couple of gripes I have but overall an easy recommend!

Pros:
-Difficulty akin to the other souls games
-Tons of unique weapon and armor
-Lots of interesting questlines
-Tightly designed bosses on the same level as most of the souls bosses
-Open world feels interesting. The space inbetween two locations generally has SOMETHING to do. Whether that be a roving band of enemies or a chasm you need to cross.
-Weapon arts are flashy and fun
-Summons are super fun to use and very useful!

Cons:
-Like many open world games, it suffers from reusing assets. Not necessarily a bad thing by itself but a fair amount of them just feel random. An important boss for a sidequest is randomly in a cave for no apparent reason other than they needed a boss.
-A fair few enemies have bad movesets. Like the dogs that deal 10,000+ in a hit and Crusader Knight with his very very limited recovery frames. Patches may come and mitigate some of those issues.
-Several bosses are too fast. Not too fast as in they're challenging but moreso so fast that if you decided to run a heavy weapon you get maybe one swipe in before they're already three continents away. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be very annoying. Especially if the boss just plays keep away and you have to sprint after them for three hours just for one hit. *cough cough* Final Boss *cough cough*
-PVP is busted. Though to be fair, that's to be expected. Early days of souls games generally have absolutely busted PVP. I have a feeling it'll be fixed.
-This one's more of a minor annoyance but in every other souls game that have two final bosses right after each other, you start on the second boss if you die during it. Elden Ring breaks that tradition and makes you fight the first final boss.

Overall I'd say that the game is well worth the price. Overall it is a great time. Just there are a few gripes with an otherwise super great game.

Let me give you a rundown of my first actual hunt.

Played phasmophobia with my brother. Had to play in VR because my headset wasn't working and it was the only way for him to hear me. After about 10 minutes of being creeped out by ambience, we ditched to the van and only needed one more piece of evidence. Sat down in a room and asked the ghost to write in the journal. Had to wait around, chatting to my brother over the radio when I heard a weird gurgling and turned around to it standing in the corner. Screamed in fear and ran out of the house. Sank to the floor when I returned to the van and realized I was safe.

10/10. Great game.

VR is good, albeit a bit costly.

I also couldn't resist keeping my "Hours when reviewed" at this.

Arguably the best VR game on Steam right now. Yes, the game is technically lacking in content. However it's also in early access and is currently in development. The physics feel so great. Swinging that big ol' axe feels like you're swinging a big weapon. Swinging a dagger feels like you're swinging a small piece of metal. The weight of these weapons feels right. None of these weapons feel incredibly off of how they feel in real life. The NPCs react well to how you're swinging at them. Lifting their blade you wind up a swing to catch it before it lands to put you off guard and only take a swipe at you if they have the time to get one off. It's not perfect, by any means, but the game is still EARLY ACCESS. I already feel like I've earned my money's worth with this game and it's still being developed.

One slight note. The current version of the game (U8) has some small performance issues. A lot of people are whining about it after an even larger amount of the community were demanding the dev release the update before it was ready. I personally haven't had an issue, but I know some have. So if frame drops every now and then are so ghastly to you, just hold off on buying it.

8.5/10 Would (and likely will) slaughter hundreds again.
