Before I start, I am not a 343I hater, I generally like Halo 4 and other things they've done to the franchise so please don't think I'm hopping on the hate train for the sake of it.

The Halo fans saying this feels like the best halo game since CE and is true to what Halo is are just wrong. I generally do not know how a Halo fan could enjoy this sad excuse of a rush job. Its so bad half way through the game I thought to myself "this is boring why don't I play Halo, the campaign just cam... oh wait".

Gameplay:
Whats you're favourite mission in halo? The flood reveal in Ce? Is it riding gondolas in halo 2? The Hog run in 3? Launching into space in halo reach? riding the mammoth in 4? well whatever it is nothing like that happens in infinite, and its because of its biggest flaw: The open world.

Open World
It just doesn't fit the halo narrative. "BuT WhAt AbOuT tHe SeCoNd MisSion In Ce?", you mean the very linear mission with one open section, where you can choose an order of 3 outposts to visit? its hardly open world. The open world restricts the game to the open world; meaning no differing environments, mission layouts, or game play changes. Its all the same environment, in the same forerunner structures, with the same boring traversal in between. And the missions in the forerunner structures are fetch quests to get power seeds to open doors, with a few banished sprinkled in between. The 10-12 hours to play this, about 60% is driving from A-B. The one encounters in between are fun for all of 30 seconds until you realise its "kill things, press a button" and once you do about 4 you are sick of them.

Boss fights
The boss encounters in both missions and the open world just doesn't feel like Halo. Like sure we had boss fights before, but a giant health bar and multi-stages didn't happen, it was usually a well set up encounter against the big bad at the end of the game, not a elite health sponge what can active camo.

Battle Pass and Skill Trees
You have to unlock guns and vehicles in a battle pass. Yep, you heard me right. You know the boring encounters? you have to grind them to unlock things like different weapons and vehicles to use while in the open world. Special weapons can be unlocked via killing bosses and you have to level up and grind a skill tree.... This is Halo not the fking Witcher.

Replayability
Basically doesn't exist, (It may have changed) but you cant replay individual missions and the starting a new campaign feels dragging as you have to encounter the open world again.

Story:
We all hate Halo 5: Guardians right? but it at least was going somewhere cool, and us halo wars fans finally had a chance to be part of the main series with Anders being stuck on Cortanas Halo ring. Welp basically that doesn't happen. Anders was retconned to be on a DIFFERENT halo ring. Cortana? Dies off screen. Atriox (The big bad of the banished)?Dies off screen... Then comes back alive?? The Guardians? Never mentioned. The AI uprising? Never mentioned. Blue team and fire team osiris? Who knows. main story with direction? None existent. The story basically is "The banished want this ring for some reason, go kill em. oh and the infinity (Humanities greatest achievement after AI and Spartans) was taken out by like 4 banished cruisers and now the entire UNSC is dead". To understand any form of story (not that much is told) you have to find audio logs dotted about the massive open world, and the main story of chief is that the precursors are coming and they are worse then the flood, but they appear for 5 minutes at the end and are super weak.

Cut scenes:
To start with 80% of the cut scenes is just Sam / The Weapon / New Cortana talking to the chief in a super static environment but "its better because they're rendered real time", bearing in mind that the content of these cut scenes are the types of conversations you would overhear during game play like previous titles. 10% are boss intros, and the rest are generally pretty cool.

Art:
Seems to have gone back on itself, the gritty realism Bungie was heading for in reach and what 343 continued is gone, going back to a more plastic look (what was only apparent due to hardware at the time). The artstyle in the sense of what thing look like though is great, going back to classic designs on the covenant and weapons for example.

every good bit about the campaign, such as audio, gun play etc. can be experienced in multiplayer for free, so it doesn't feel like something to give props for here.

Overall I would generally want to play Halo 5 guardians story over this one as it at least feels like a Halo game and has an interesting story (however bad that story may be to the overall continuity). Its sad to see that a game so hyped up what was supposed to "Fix" the mistakes made previously, ended up being worse than anything imaginable. Halo Infinites campaign felt like it was made by a studio who had never seen or played Halo before. If you are a true fan of Halo, you will be disappointed.
