The first ten minutes of Hylics had me amazed and filled with questions.

The next hour made me incredibly frustrated. This game gives you very little direction on what to do, and figuring out what to do without any sort of pointers or walkthrough is very difficult. Maybe it's because I don't play many JRPGs, but I struggled heavily at the start. It took me 45 minutes of playtime to win my first battle.

The rest of my playtime involved me experiencing an incredible game with fun mechanics. The sheer exploration factor of this strange world is immense for a game that's objectively short. The game's combat becomes far easier to control once you begin finding your party members and more television screens to obtain your powers.

Hylics is the weirdest game I have ever played thus far, and I cannot wait to try out the sequel. While I do wish the beginning of the game was more forgiving and gave me more of an explanation (it doesn't even explain the controls to you, for the most part), it becomes a very enjoyable experience when you get a grip in this surreal world you're in. This game is a must-play for any fan of RPGs.
