After playing the mod back when the mod first came out and now moving on to this stand alone version, I have a clear understanding of how to rate this game.

Coming from the mod, I loved the tense moments where you might lose all your gear in a firefight against one man or a group of many. I also loved the aspect of surviving and keeping your character alive and making sure you don't die from hunger, thirst, zombies, or other survivors. All of these aspects plus more are in this game now.

This game brings those tense, heart-pounding moments when you see a player or begin to get shot at. This game is not a game where everyone is balanced with the other person. I mean that by one person will most likely have an advantage over the other at any point in a fire fight. Take Call of Duty games for example; you have time to turn and shoot at a player if they are shooting you in the back. Not the case here. You get shot at from behind and somehow get away, then you are one lucky man. To not go into a lot more detail about this I will just say that in the moments of a gun fight, or soon to be gunfight, there is no fair playing field. This makes you have to adapt to this hostile environment and set yourself up for success all the time. You have to think always as the prey in this game, always looking around for threats even when you are hunting someone.

Now the environment isn't forgiving either except for the many apple trees you can eat from and the many water pumps you can drink from. Basically everything in this games wants to kill you, and they can all do it in their own ways. The temperature in the game, kind of a winter cold out right now in the game, can kill you. Yes, it's slow to do so but it's still something you have to counter. Better clothing like jackets are a good way to stay warm during the cold and the rain coats are good for when it's raining and cold out so you don't get hypothermia. Then there's hot climate which dehydrates you and so on. Zombies are now a big threat in this game as compared to the non-dangerous ones in the mod. They can easily knock you out and kill you in groups. Stealth, a bunch of ammo, or some form of melee is your only way to counter this. Basically what I am trying to get across is that this game is not a forgiving one and is for people who like battling for survival so if you like games like Rust, Ark: Survival Evolved, 7 Days to Die, and many other survival games, you will enjoy this.

All in all, the game is great: Graphics are stunning (still needs optimizing though), gameplay is intense and heart pounding, sounds are on point, and the survival aspect is realistic. If you enjoy survival games and fighting zombies and other players, you will enjoy this game. The only draw back as of today is that it is still in development. It has its glitches every now and again but are worked out by the devs with quick fixes and these glitches aren't game-breaking. It isn't fully optimized yet, seeing that inside cities my frames go from about 30-50 FPS in certain cities and in the wilderness and small cities I get about 55-120 FPS. Those are the only down sides to this game but they aren't game breaking. All taken into account, this game is highly enjoyable.
