We Who Are About to Die - Review

Is the game good?
For a short while, yes, I would not recommend, it has its issues.

I first came across We Who Are About to Die on YouTube, and it looked like a ton of fun. That was definitely my experience for the first few hours. The game’s unique mechanics and brutal combat system kept me engaged early on. However, after about 3 hours, the game started to feel trivial, and the deeper I got into the late game, the more issues began to pile up.

Performance Issues
As I progressed, the game started to lag and I encountered numerous bugs. Some examples:

Characters glitching into one another
Weapons flying around unpredictably
Enemies refusing to leave their spawn points
These issues really took away from the immersion and made the game feel unfinished.

Event Scaling Problems
The street robbery mechanic is fun at first. Getting ambushed when you're still a lowly gladiator adds a sense of danger. However, it quickly becomes absurd when you're fully armored and still getting robbed by two people armed with... a stick and a frying pan. There’s no scaling for these events, and it starts to feel out of place and unbalanced.

Combat System
The combat system, which seems to take some inspiration from games like Mordhau, has potential but can feel clunky. While I appreciate the realism of needing to hit with the weapon properly to deal damage, even with experience in similar games, the controls remain unintuitive.

Suggestions for Improvement:

Durability Indicators: Add a graphical indicator showing when armor or weapons are about to break. This would be a useful addition to prevent surprise equipment failures.

Favor System Expansion: I’d love to see more depth in the favor system with the slave masters. If a master likes you a lot, they should offer significant advantages, making the system feel more rewarding.

Arena Ambush Mechanic: Adding an ambush mechanic in the arena could spice up gameplay, creating more unpredictability and excitement in matches.

Final Thoughts
At €22, We Who Are About to Die feels overpriced in its current state, especially given its technical issues and lack of polish. However, at €10, it could be a more attractive option for fans of gladiator-style games who can look past the flaws.

I hope that one day id be able to recommend the game to you.

Possibly the most embarassing and pathetic Devs ever. Like, just look at what one of them is saying about the community

(There were some screenshots showing it but sadly they were deleted, one of them was uploaded multiple times, which is the following imgur link)

The second screenshot (that has sadly been deleted) showed one of the devs saying that they don't even read the reviews and they apparently couldn't give "two ♥♥♥♥♥ about what people say".

Wow, how glad they have the control over what once was a very nice game :)

Calling people who review your game "salty noobs with skill issues" is the DUMBEST thing I have ever seen XD.

♥♥♥♥♥, your game doesn't require any skill, it's basically an idle game. What are you dumbass talking about? xD

Spread this to everyone who plays this, edit this into every review.
Never forget what they did

And to the people that want to know what's wrong with the game.
Well they basically made a cash grab out of it, forcing you to buy inventory capacity after reducing your inventory from infinite to basically nothing, while also introducing new dlc which was very horrible.
At the same time the game is FILLED to the brim with bugs, and the whole game just isn't enjoyable anymore.
