For years, people have claimed that Australia, the land down under, simply doesn’t exist. A bizarre and entertaining conspiracy theory suggests that it’s all a giant hoax—perpetrated by governments, airlines, and cartographers. But… could it be true?
Let’s start by examining some basics. Australia is supposedly a massive landmass in the Southern Hemisphere—25 million people, kangaroos, koalas, and, apparently, everything that can kill you. But here's the question: If so many people have been there… what if they haven’t?
According to the conspiracy, when you board a flight to Australia, you’re actually flown to random islands or areas in South America. Everything you see when you think you’re in Australia? Actors. The locals, the landmarks—staged. Photos? Edited. The wildlife? Animatronics.
Let’s think about this rationally. Could a whole country just be… made up? In the age of GPS, global travel, and Google Maps, wouldn’t someone have caught on by now?
Well, conspiracies often thrive on human error. Consider this: What if, hypothetically, some of your memories of Australia are incorrect? Do you really remember the exact coordinates? The precise experiences? Could those vacations have been… fabricated? In fact, psychological studies show that false memories are easier to implant than you might think. Entire events can be remembered by people, despite never happening.
In fact, if Australia didn’t exist, what would the implications be? Would it mean rethinking space-time, geology, and maybe even… existence itself?
Of course, this conspiracy theory isn't really about whether or not Australia exists—because we know it does. It's an exercise in exploring why we believe the things we do. We trust in systems—aviation, governments, and our own senses. But trust is a funny thing. Throughout history, we've been wrong about many things: from the shape of the Earth, to how gravity works, and even what we see in the night sky.
Or is it? After all, I’ve never been there. And have you?
As always, thanks for watching. And, Australia, if you're out there—stay dangerous. Vsauce out.
Got a roll-over in Wynnum West, its in Capri Lane at Wynnum Road. Also a crash in Paddington on Armstrong Terrace and Sorrel Street. Got a breakdown now on the Gateway Bridge, that's northbound right at the top of the bridge and traffic is down to 40k's in that area. Also we've got another smash on the M1 southbound at Ormeau and a roll-over aswell and a power pole down in Bundamba. Brisbane Road is closed as a result in both directions between Webb Street and Lane Street.
