Amazing. The gameplay itself is very simple, but the level is full of secrets. I was scouring every corner in hopes of a secret shortcut or more precious snippets of lore. The atmosphere alone makes it worth playing. Or well that, and the sense of wonder you get when exploring this industrial wasteland.

This game is totally slept on. Nine Sols is very unique in terms of style and gameplay and the execution is just near flawless. Not fair to talk about it only as a comparison to something like Hollow Knight, though in terms of quality it is definitely up there with that. Instant classic.

The first third of the game was a blast with the game introducing new mechanics gradually and upping the complexity slowly so you don't overwhelmed. After a while though, the game started to lose its charm and all the extra "mini-games" got more annoying and repetitive than fun. They lacked the polish that other parts of the game had, which was a shame. The design felt more like it focused on quantity over quality.

I think the main gameplay loop of diving and managing the restaurant wasn't nearly deep enough to justify the length of the game. The game also had recurring progression blocks, with you having to go back up to the boat to keep progressing in the story. These felt like they were a lesson learned from mobile games, reminiscent of the classic "You are out of energy, please come back tomorrow"-events, which I feel have no place in paid games. Other annoyances I had were with the hand-holdy nature of the game. Most puzzles were preceded by the game taking control from you to have Dave think out loud and just straight up tell you exactly what to do. Fine as tutorials for new mechanics, but since every mission tried to introduce a new mechanic, these ended up being all there was.

Overall, while the game was fun in the beginning, I felt like the quality was spread too thin and the story it overstayed it's welcome, leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Hunt is the most fun I've had in a PvP first person shooter in years, maybe ever. There just isn't another game out there like it.

I thought I would play it for a month or two and then move on to other games, but I was wrong. The variety of the game surprised me. On paper 3 maps and 2 game modes, Bounty Hunt and Soul Survivor, sound like they would get old quickly, but surprisingly that couldn't be farther from the truth. I never even play the Soul Survivor mode and I suspect most others don't either. The variety in level design, weapon loadouts and gunfights keeps me coming back every time. That's the key thing in Hunt, variety.

Every engagement feels unique, so much so that I still can remember specific matches from months ago and so do my friends. They're so memorable that you start giving names to matches and events. "The bush game", "The Upper DeSalle barrel incident", "Water devil dynamite fishing" etc. I could go on for a long time. I think the biggest factor in making moments feel memorable is how everything happens so organically. You aren't at any point in the game forced to go to some area by a blue zone or something similar, just incentivised. You can just dodge a fight completely if it seems like you are outclassed by the arsenal or are low on hp etc. Usually people want to fight, since that is where the fun comes from, but the fact that it is never forced makes each fight feel more special.

I also enjoy how the game isn't strongly dominated by a META, at least not outside of the highest ranks. There are weapons that are stronger than others, and there are clear META loadouts. But since a lot of people play just for fun, people experiment with all kinds of weapons instead of just going for the strongest loadouts in every match. It also helps that the cheapest pistols can also 1 shot headshot at reasonable ranges, and the cheapest shotgun 1 shot to the chest, and there isn't a thing you can buy to stop that from happening. No matter how much your loadout costs, you can still get destroyed by a better player with the cheapest loadout in the game. No gun is useless, and even meme loadouts can win matches.

Of course, the game isn't perfect. The updates come slow, especially balance changes seem to cook in the oven for a year before a patch comes. The changes to the core gameplay are also pretty tame. It is almost as if the developers fear breaking the balance of the game, that is held up by player's wanting to not play META, which seems counter-intuitive. There are also server issues with kill trades and slow reconnecting. The UI is clunky, matchmaking could use work, progression could use work, a replay system and a better report system would help with cheaters etc.

Fixing all of these would definitely make the game better. But it is already an amazing game and I trust Crytek to keep it that way. Even if nothing changes, it will still be the PvP game I enjoy the most out of anything else in the market currently.

In short, this was a very mediocre experience, at least when looking at it from today's standpoint.

The basic gameplay loop is walking through linear levels (mostly woods) and lots of combat sequences fighting the taken. The combat is probably what takes most of your playtime, and while it had some fun moments, it gets old very quickly. I didn't feel like my kit, or the enemies were diverse enough to make me want to do it for most of my 12 hour playthrough.

The game's strong points are definitely the atmosphere, world building and story setup. The storytelling was pretty corny most of the time, but it had some fun and interesting moments. The atmosphere and world building are the game's true shining beacons. If it weren't for those, I would've just quit it after a couple of levels. Ironically, the quiet moments where nothing was really happening and you are just talking with the townspeople or exploring some weird place are the most fun moments of the game.

Just a shame that the focus was more on the running and fighting instead of exploring more of the weirdness of the world. This is something I'm hoping is done better in Alan Wake 2.

This game gets what roguelike games are all about and executes it wonderfully. It has so many different items and weapons with unique properties, that even the more "dull" items have their place in the game. It is all served with Enter the Gungeon's own sense of humour through the wackyness and gun-puns. Beating the game's storylines and unlocking new items requires multiple completions of the same levels, but the boss, room, and enemy variety make every run feel different.

If I had to pick one thing that sets this game apart from it's competitors, it's that at the end of day, this game is more about the skill of the player than luck. This is a very hard thing to achieve in this genre without making the game feel unfair. Sure, there are run-winning items, but even if you don't get any of them, you still have a good chance to win with more mediocre items.

All in all, a very hard recommend from me if you like the genre and want a challenge.
