tl;dr The game is a good purchase if your main interest is the singleplayer. The multiplayer is an example of where the videogame industry is and has been since this game released.

This game shows that Rockstar no longer respects the player. The singleplayer portion of this game is fantastic. While it has its flaws, it is good old GTA action with lots of things to do and secrets to find, Not to forget mods, you can play a VR conversion of this game and more. The singleplayer is an example of what Rockstar used to be. At 30$, this game is a steal.

Of course, you also gain access to multiplayer, the other half of this game, This half shows what Rockstar is now. The game is constantly trying to get the player to spend more money, money which new players can earn at an extremely slow rate unless you buy shark cards (which are huge scams). The multiplayer loop focuses on the player completing missions and heists for NPCs with the end goal of getting rich. However, you'll spend a lot of time grinding early on as most missions waste your time without paying out very much. Once the player gains access to the Cayo Perico heist, they are able to make a fairly large amount of money in a relatively short period of time. But, this heist is locked behind a multi-million dollar purchase.

Unfortunately, the game will constantly interrupt your gameplay with advertisements for the very expensive in game properties and vehicles. Constant calls from Lester and other boring and annoying characters will prevent you from doing simple things like sprinting, shooting, and using the chat window (you will be forced out as you type and your message will be erased).

While the single-player runs well on my machine (2060S, R5 3600, 16G DDR4 ram), the online runs horribly. In single-player, in the city, I will get from 90-110 fps. However, online, my frame-rate drops drastically. In the same place I get around 57-70 fps. Its clear that there is no attempt to optimize any of the updates. Considering that RDR2 looks way better and runs very well on my machine (online and SP), there is no excuse for GTA the run the way it does.

Great game, very fun and challenging. The story is great, its basically an anime molded into an awesome action game. Its very cheesy and funny at times, but it gets some good cinematic shots thanks to Hideo and Kojima.
