One of the most in-depth games I've had the pleasure of enjoying, and the frustration of trying to beat because this game challenges your problem-solving skills and abilities. You get an incredible bang for your buck and I hope this game sparks a new series, I want to see 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit and beyond sequels!

Feeling distracted when trying to work on important stuff? Let the cozy cabin in On Track help keep your focus! I don't know why bit it works so well having this on my 2nd screen while I work on editing and stuff, but it does! Highly reccommended!

[Spoilers Ahead, tl;dr if you're in this for just the combat, trials, dungeons, crafting, collectibles, it might be worth your time. If you're in it for the story just skip everything and watch a cliff notes version]

Let's get the good out of the way first:
The graphical update brings some much needed visual Quality of Life updates to the characters and environment
The combat is fluid, fun and easy to get a grasp on for each of the classes, albeit sadly some classes got nerfed
Experience is easy to get so leveling up doesn't take too long
Despite what some may say, the dungeons and trials are on the same difficulty level as Endwalker. Just make sure to have the proper level gear and use all of your skills to keep yourself and your team from dying.

Now for everything else:

Starting with the the rotting corpse of an elephant in the room: The Story. A filler heavy migraine-inducing experience that can best be described as Mid. From the npc's who are about as deep as an ankle-deep puddle to the endlessly monotonous tedious quests of "Talk to X, Cutscene, Talk to X, Cutscene" or "listen to wuk ♥♥♥♥♥/whine/complain for X amount of minutes", this easily proves that you need more than a first draft. Who looked at this and thought this was a worthy followup to Endwalker? Yes I am fully aware this was supposed to be the start of a new arc, but this is the equivalent of going to a restaurant you've been to for years that put out an announcement there's new "exciting" changes coming, but when you arrive the staff throws a can of spaghetti at you and tells you to just enjoy it. This "expansion" commits the two most egregious sins that an RPG could do: It does not respect your time and shoehorns an unlikable npc to the forefront while relegating you as a pet to be dragged all over creation with little to no agency on your part including dialogue choices and railroading your experience to the point where it's 90% cutscenes and 10% gameplay.

There's also the issue of what exactly was "new" as far as story, because as far as what I was able to glean there were an excruciating number of items that were copied and pasted from previous expansions:
NPC that was focused on - Lyse from Stormblood
Antagonist committing morally reprehensible things to "save their people", fusing worlds, manipulating others for their own ends over a period of many years : Emet-Selch from Shadowbringers
Main quests involving looking at farming: Loporrits from Endwalker
Medieval looking areas: Several places in Heavensward, Shadowbringers and Endwalker
Antagonist that kills his own soldiers cause reasons: Zenos
The stupid trope of letting the bad guy walk away: Too many instances to count
Reused assets in the environments and areas clearly designed to look like Twilight Town from Kingdom Hearts
A villain in green with a magic crown that devours souls and is an obvious manipulator: Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat. I am not even kidding about this one.

Let's talk about those cutscenes for a moment because I just re-watched TheRussianBadger's Fallout: New Vegas video because I needed to be reminded of what good storytelling is and realized something: Nearly all of the dialogue in New Vegas is voiced, and that game is 14 years old. Want to know how much of the cutscenes in Dawntrail are voiced? Barely any of them. What exactly was the excuse for that? Did they only have an hour to record all the voice lines in the rented studio booth or something? I often found myself feeling bad for friends of mine who put their heart and soul into their work, meanwhile the VA for wuk is barely qualified to work at a drive-thru for Wendy's, yet some of the side characters (such as Bakool, Koana and the train depot NPC's) have much better VA work which makes you wonder who the hell was in charge of casting and directing. There was absolutely no excuse for the piss poor performance nor the lack of voiced cutscenes for how many there were. On top of that, the fight choreography for the fight scenes (far and few between as there were) was abysmal with 900 cuts for less than a minute that harkens back to the Taken 3 meme of a dozen cuts needed for climbing a fence.

And speaking of the sound, usually the OST in each expansion has a ton of memorable tracks, but Dawntrail? I can count maybe 3-4 tracks I enjoyed and the rest were either white noise or just insufferable such as the wailing church chorus once you beat the final boss. Oh and let's not forget the bug of needing to disable the audio enhancement effects in order for the voiced cutscenes to actually be heard. There's also the manner of reused tracks for all of those cutscenes, most of which were inappropriate to the tone as well and it really just breaks what little immersion to be had since there's a ridiculous amount that you have to sit through.

Circling back to wuk, ever since Lyse in Stormblood I have not seen an npc so deservedly and actively despised and you would've thought SE would've learned by now not to do that again, and yet here we are. Shoehorned into nearly every scene, forced to be dragged along like an npc ourselves to every interaction to the absurdly forced scene where she "somehow" breaks through a dome to appeal to the final boss' emotions like an episode of steven universe, and I've been struggling to figure out who this npc was supposed to appeal to because it sure as hell wasn't the playerbase. Honestly the main character should've been Koana because as shallow as the character's writing was, he at least has some worthwhile growth, hell even Bakool has some growth and again extremely shallow but at least redeemable and even dare I say likeable towards the end. Meanwhile wuk throws a pity party every 2 minutes, doesn't show any qualifications to being a qualified leader other than just listening to people, never shuts the hell up and thinks that making people smile is the most important aspect of solving a nation's issues.

This really feels like a bait and switch con job, especially when we were told that this was supposed to be a lower stakes vacation
expansion with competition involving the Scions, yet what we got was tumblr-level writing trying to make you care with overloaded sap, bad jokes and stuck on a leash being led around by the worst story-focused npc in the game's history relieving Lyse of that long-held crown.

Whoever is in charge of staff: relegate the writers, sound editors, cutscene editors and quest makers of Dawntrail to side quests where they belong, start bringing in competent people and fix this problem before it gets any worse than it already is. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I've missed in this review but long story short this is a travesty and an insult to both longtime players of this series and just anyone in general who enjoys storytelling, especially with the release of Elden Ring's dlc just shortly before this was released.

Once again, tl;dr if you're in this for just the combat, trials, dungeons, crafting, collectibles, it might be worth your time. If you're in it for the story just skip everything and watch a cliff notes version

Do you like tower defense games? Do you like sci-fi themed first person shooters that aren't filled with microtransactions but instead filled with enemies that want to take over your ship and expose your browser history? Do you want to destroy said enemies with extreme prejudice with different weapons and means of mutilation?

Then this game is for you!

Yes this game is still in early access due to the small development team, but this game will give you a ton of bang for the buck especially if you enjoy the challenge of enemy forces that randomize based on your loadout. This game will challenge you if you think having a full loadout will keep you safe, and there are many who will complain that it's "too difficult". Strategy is just as important as good aim, especially if you've never played a tower defense game before.

This game is well worth the money and time, not to mention the major update that's on the way is going to shake things up when it arrives! So give it a shot and give the team your support!

Had this game since the orange box came out and played it for years. This past year however the bot problem has only gotten worse, and even on custom servers it's been infected. Between valve's criminal negligence and people getting doxxed and swatted, the game is no longer worth the risk. Didn't think the game would die from this, and it's a damn shame.

3 hours and 1 boss in, can easily put this as one of my favorites this year. Love the art style, the character designs, the worldbuilding, but most importantly the combat mechanics. The controls are crisp and unlike other soulslike games, there isn't a stamina gauge nor is there a long delay between when you can spam your parry button! That isn't to say it's easy to get perfect parries but it definitely keeps you engaged in combat when you're not having to wait 900 years for a stamina bar to recharge so you can continue the fight.

If yall are looking for a challenge and enjoy metroidvanias like Blasphemous, this one is right up your alley and one I can highly recommend!

tl;dr Below average game that had a high bar and high expectations.

Played the beta, had a lot of fun with it, expected a lot more with the game's re-release. Come to find out that not only does this game play slower than the beta, but it's absolutely janky as hell, you only get 1 actual character that's unlocked while the few you're able to play as are on a timed rotation and in order to get the rest you either need to spend real money or grind for an ungodly amount of time. Overwatch 2 logic should not have been used for that.

Speaking of Overwatch 2, the battle pass is an absolute joke, and a bad one at that. The fact you're required to get it in order to get Jason (and no doubt future characters) is evidence of the fact that they worked backwards from prioritizing the battlepass and then working on the game itself which by the looks of it seems like it took up the 5 out of 6 month period this game was offline from the beta.

And don't even get me started on the "rifts" , the dollar tree budget classic mode copy. You fight some basic fights with story in text that's barely formatted properly, the enemies have super armor and the boss fight is a mobile style minigame. Absolutely pathetic.

What a waste of potential and players hopes that there could be games out there that could be actual good competitors to Smash Bros.

Do you like Turok? Do you like FPS arena shooters? Do you like slaughtering waves of enemies while finding unique weapons and demolishing the environment around you with no consequences? Then this game is for you! For less than $20 you get a classic platform shooter that will put your skills to the test especially if you decide to use the difficulty scalers to max out enemy damage, not to mention the insane amount of secrets to find that are scattered around the maps!

So what are you waiting for? Go get it already!

This game can easily take the #1 spot for Game of the Year with how much you get for a measly $20. You can tell just how much heart and soul went into this game and it shows with all the content and creativity is on display. Going to be recommending this to everyone because it's a game that anyone can spend hours enjoying just for the diving and seafood restaurant aspect alone.

10/10, will be gifting copies because it's that good.

Is this game fun? It's street fighter with a more colorful aesthetic, so yes.
Is it worth buying for $60? Hell no.

While this game is fun, this new iteration makes you heavily rely on all the new mechanics rather than the fighters skillset which kind of takes away from the fun of trying out each of the characters, save for Zangief since his throw moves give him super armor so he can just look at the mechanics and say "no". On top of that there are ZERO recovery moves so if you can blasted into a corner you better hope you can tell what the opponent is trying to do and act accordingly otherwise just give up the round.

Rating: 7/10
