i'm completely rewriting my positive meme review to give my actual opinion on the game.

you'll enjoy your progression and the experience for a couple of months, you'll probably join a guild and their discord and get to be friends with some of the people you play "with". that's about it.

the main selling point of this game is combat and graphics - the game can look great, but it's not feasible for combat, as your damage is tied to your fps (no, i'm not joking, yes the devs have tried fixing it and it actually broke the game, so they have no plans to change it). additionally, due to the nature of mmos and each user being connected to a server, ping is certainly an issue. classes with a lot of protection combined with users with high ping equate to opponents being in protection for far longer, with gaps in it appearing far less frequently. if you're curious to see this in action, for NA, find any Aussie sorc and enjoy. the combat can be enjoyable and rewarding, up to a specific gear point. after which, there is minimal balancing, and the combos and skill rotations you've learned and mastered are useless, as it becomes a test to see who can get one-shot through protection first.

the grinds are boring and repetitive, even if you try changing up the class you grind on or the location you grind in.

the community is mixed - on one hand, they will scream about the most efficient grind possible, and then they will go right to the enhancement screen instead of simply buying the item off of the market by grinding an extra couple of hours. in one breath they will tell you about why your current progression is bad but then they will give you the wrong advice on how to progress next. most of the community is so focused on their own grind, any form of pvp is just an instant server swap or they'll bring their entire guild to fight one person.

the developers are awful - every single major event where they make announcements is filled, and i mean FILLED, with "we've decided to delay/rework/cancel this upcoming content that we announced 2 years ago, sorry". i'll give you an example - in 2020, they made a big deal about adding a tower-like dungeon that you could do cooperatively. they said that they would have it with the next big region update, late that year. fast forward to DECEMBER 2022 - they announced that while they were in the final playtesting of this dungeon, their play testers found it to be too difficult and SCRAPPED IT ENTIRELY. Their most consistent updates are to, of course, the cash shop and to in-game items that make existing cash shop items sell better. enhancing an end game item too hard and your market place preorders won't go through? no problem! pearl abyss has developed an entirely new item that you can enhance to have the same stats as the end game item! as with all expensive enhancing, the only way to protect your enhancement from downgrading is by using a rather rare resource, which is conveniently available en masse in the cash shop! don't even bother submitting feedback - there's a few discords and official channels where they allow players to make "suggestions" but if you're not korean, you will be ignored. part of the reason the class balance is so bad on na, eu, mena, sa, ru, etc is because class balance is geared towards the korean playerbase and regional ping (tip: it's always low!). why is berserker busted? because the devs keep buffing him in the hopes that korean players will use him despite the character being "ugly" (even though you can customize your character to a high degree). why is awakening mystic terrible? because the korean playerbase considers her to be very good (she is not). they continue to add more and more classes to a game that they can't balance as is.

don't play this game. please, take it from a player who's sunk 11,597 hours in over 5 years, along with $11,726.12 USD, into this game. it was fun for a long time, but i can't say that anymore. the game is not good. it is not fun.

tl;dr - fun for season if you're new, repetitive after the first one. graphics cool, but don't matter because you won't be playing the game in them. community is dumb, but you'll find some cool people. devs are horrific, dumb, money hungry, and will not listen to your feedback.

This is BY FAR my favorite game of all time. My time on Steam pale's in comparison to the amount hours I've spent on my old PS3. Only game I've completed 100% on.

This game works perfectly, just don't alt-tab.

To get it to stop crashing on Windows 7 follow these steps:

-Download Fallout 3
-Do NOT have Fallout 3 running during the next steps
-Click on the Windows button in the lower left hand corner of your screen and seach "FALLOUT" (all caps)
-Under "Documents", there's a file called FALLOUT, open it in Notepad
-Use CtrlF to search for the line "bUseThreadedAI"
-It will be set equal to 0
-Change "bUseThreadedAI=0" to "bUseThreadedAI=1"
-Add the line "iNumHWThreads=2" right under "bUseThreadedAI=1"
-Save the changes to the document FALLOUT
-Close the document
-Launch Fallout 3, and enjoy

Hope this helps someone out there.

Nominated this game for the "No Apologies" Award for the 2017 Steam Awards. I have no quarrels with this game, it is one of my favorites of all time, despite the glitches and a few gameplay mechanics I'm not too fond of. Fantastic game, see guide above to optimize this game for Windows 7.

A classic. If you're looking for a super cheap Fallout with decent graphics, story, and customizable stuff, look no further.
