My experience with this game is quite similar to my experience first playing XCOM (the reboot series).

1) I install the game, cause it looks fun and it's got great reviews.
2) I play maybe 5-6 hours of it, and made some strategic mistakes.
3) These mistakes culminate in a vicious spiral where I can't fund my heroes enough on their journeys to safeguard them, cause I'm spending too much money on healing the heroes I do have.
4) I uninstall the game out of frustration, and angry cause I'm well past the refund policy's sympathy.

5) Some days pass.
6) I reinstall the game to see if I can get any money's worth out of my terrible time so far.
7) I restart the game, and it's a blast. I make sure to actually take torches this time like an idiot , and now my friends have fun watching my stream as I stomp on these eldritch fools, or get absolutely ass-blasted by them.

If you don't like the game at first, give it a few days. It's like Dark Souls, it'll slowly reel you back in anyways.

It's the match made in heaven between Geometry Dash and Bullet Hell.
It's as if they made a game out of the Windows Media Player Visualizer.
It's actually got a story with neat characters, even though they're Just Shapes.
Its beats are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fire.

It's good. Worth the price at $15, but you can also wait for a sale.

Most games try to balance their player's power level. This one doesn't. It invites you to exploit and undermine every single one of its systems to get even stronger.

And this game is confident enough to still instakill you even at that point.

Probably my favorite Roguelike out there. The first one was an amazing game, lacking not in depth or in breadth... but in multiplayer. Then the three person dev team surprises us with a full 3D remake that somehow perfectly translates all of the previous game's items and functions into a 3D space, and improves upon them. Then makes a whole new class of items that can make or break your run. Then makes new characters, and interchangable skills for each of them. And then the monumental Artifacts update.

This dev team is amazing and has done nothing but delivered on every promise they've made. First game was great, this one blows it out of the water. If you're a roguelike purist, then this game should definitely be in your library.

Did I mention that they take feature requests on the daily in their Discord?

One of my first games that I bought for my now expansive Steam library, and I don't regret it one bit.

Portal 2 is the most recent game that Valve released in the past decade (Barring HL: Alyx) and is easy recommendation to me. Its singleplayer campaign has a great story and memorable characters. The co-op campaign (co-op campaign!!) is a unique experience with a playtime of 20 hours with uncooperative friends.

The puzzles are intuitive and work just as the physics of the game allow them to 99.8% of the time, allowing even the most nooby of video game players to pick it up and play with some encouragement.

2012 was a great year for video games, and this was one of the best games of that year.
And... it's $2.00 on sale.

Probably the best survival and crafting game that I've played, ever.

For those many of us who have played Minecraft as kids, it perfectly captures that sense of being entirely fascinated with the possibilities of exploration and cooler crafting but without forcing you to keep a wiki up in another tab.

The story, sound design, and sense of progression are all top-notch, especially when most games in the genre don't even prioritize it. Highly recommend.

Pretty fun tower defense game with flash game roots. This is the best in the series of 4 games.

Think of this as a tower defense game that's been blended with RTS elements. You can place towers and other emplacements around the map while managing both your energy income and usage. Long-term upgrades can be purchased during each match using 'Aether', although most maps can be finished in under two minutes if you really plan it all out.

Overall, pretty fun tower defense game with lots of replay value and a slew of mechanics that aren't typically found within the genre.

Edit 2021: this game really good

Mario Party's minigames but at Duck Game's pacing. Good stuff!

Fast-paced 2D platform arena shooter. Super fun and desperate gameplay that can be appreciated by everyone who has a keyboard. Beware of super loud intro music.

Awesome concept, was really fun to play when it came out. I honestly don't think any content came out since 2015 though.
