Painfully underwhelming. It doesn't even come close to the same level of BFBB, let alone the Movie Game. This installment is style over substance. Their priorities were referencing things in the show instead of fleshing out the game design. While it does immerse you into the universe of the show, it doesn't manage to engage the player from a gameplay standpoint. The difficulty is a joke to the point where the final boss is a single anticlimactic minute long. Backtracking is also handled poorly with side quests being boiled down to fetch quests that will have you to run through entire levels again instead of offering new challenges within them. This game is a collecterton in disguise. The soundtrack is also worth mentioning as half of it consists of music from the show and the other half is original but rather generic and nowhere near as memorable as previous titles. I yearned for a proper successor of the previous Spongebob games but this ain't it chief.

I gave the devs an ultimatum since they decided to ruin my achievement completion with a new, awfully received DLC. Make it free, and I won't post a negative review. I was once again talking to a brick wall as they chose to ignore me. Very well, have it YOUR way. I'm not spending my hard-earned money on a pointless expansion that has overwhelmingly negative reviews.

Let's start with my first impression. Which for once, started at the desktop of all things. They couldn't even be bothered to adjust the game icon accordingly, so it's just stretched out at low resolution. Launching the game, you will always be greeted with SteamVR launching itself because the devs were too incompetent to disable the VR plugins. For anyone who wants to torture themselves with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game, use "-nohmd" as a launch command to prevent this annoying pop-up.

Let's get to the actual game now, it's slop. They blow their powder within the first two levels by introducing you to all the mechanics that will repeat themselves throughout the game. The 'puzzles' are a joke. The combat is tedious with tanky enemies frequently spawning in, regardless of which difficulty you choose. It's not challenging, it's just boring.

The game as a whole is the very definition of filler. Levels just exist to drag out the playtime. There are no memorable sections as it all blends together into one mind-numbing experience. To add insult to injury, they are also unnecessarily long. Which turns into a huge problem when you're forced to replay these levels as you can only spawn in at the start. My game crashed on 2 of these levels, right at the very end, forcing me to start them from scratch. Great game design.

It's obvious that they had no concept for this game. The different environments can't fix the mediocre mess that is the gameplay. They couldn't even be bothered to design more than one boss. Throughout the story, you're forced to fight the same boss 6 whole times, 3 of these instances occurring in the final level alone. And if that wasn't enough, there are 2 more challenges that are this exact boss fight again, one of which you'll be forced to replay upwards of 10-20 times to farm for one particular achievement.

I was optimistic for this game as the previous installment was worthwhile enough. This however, shows that there is little to no passion present within the people who develop these games. They have the know-how to make games, but don't seem interested in developing an engaging experience for the player. I've played their take on the Asterix & Obelix XXL franchise and the same problems resurface here. I'm not asking for innovation, just for quality over length when it comes to gameplay.

I have to apologize to Bum Simulator. While that game was indeed underwhelming, this one is a complete trainwreck. Within the first minutes of playing, I knew that I was dealing with another one of those cheap simulator games. Whenever I see NPCs mindlessly wander around an empty open world, the facade immediately crumbles. It doesn't benefit this game that it's trying to be a sort of RPG. At least in Bum Simulator you can run around like a lunatic and beat people up. This game? Enjoy your turn-based combat. What a joke! And just from my first impression, I concluded that this was going to be Skyrim syndrome all over again. Meaning that a majority of the game just takes place in your inventory. Thanks for the refund, I won't be coming back!

Jeffrey Damher starts a cult full of neckbeard hill billys, that's the entire story. I'm so sick of these hallucination scenes being overused to implement random ♥♥♥♥ into this franchise. This installment is the 'Jump the Shark' moment with how ridiculous the narrative elements are. Especially the Mars DLC, one of the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ expansions I've ever had the misfortune of playing, is an accurate indicator of that.

I don't even know what to say other than being a mediocre game. The sheer stupidity of locking story progression behind side content is also worth mentioning. It's evident that they didn't have any idea for a proper story. You, the player, have the most insane level of plot armor in this game. You get captured 10 times throughout the story but you don't get a bullet to the head because bad guy says you have to live. Star Wars Episode 9 called, they want their writer back.

Had they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off with the online and DLC achievements, I would have been more forgiving. There is some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in this community who purposefully published tons of broken maps that crash your game upon loading them. This is a massive problem if you plan on getting all achievements. You have a rough 10% chance of getting a map that isn't made by this ♥♥♥♥ and even then, it's most likely that you'll end up on a map that is garbage anyway. There is a report feature, but Ubisoft doesn't give a damn.

Why do companies implement online achievements for single-player games? I don't want to socialize and beg people to help me, I want to finish a game in solitude, uninstall it, then write a furious review like this one. Also, 5000 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ zombies? I had to idle for roughly 4 hours to hit that mark. Speaking of idle, Ubisoft's brilliant idle detection appears to ignore when you move your mouse and shot. I got kicked from a lobby because I remained stationary. Another level of incompetence added to the pile, congratulations.

It's also quite telling how well this game was playtested when the very first mission is impossible to beat on Hard difficulty. I failed so many times that I had to look it up. Lo and behold, this was a common issue among players. If NG+ didn't carry over your upgrades, I wouldn't have been able to beat this mission on Infamous on my first attempt. I would throw the entire Mars DLC into the same category. Halfway through, I switched it to easy because I couldn't be bothered dealing with these tanky ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemies. To my dismay, it was still ass to play on easy.

I would give it a mixed review if I could. The level of immersion this game manages to achieve through its atmosphere and ambience is rather impressive. No other Far Cry game has managed to recapture that same level of grit and roughness. Whether by deliberate design choice or incompetence, you're always on the backfoot when it comes to combat and navigating yourself through the world.

The enemy AI in this game is somehow a lot more proficient than what you get in the modern titles. They cooperate well with one another to take you on. There are also features I have yet to see reappear, such as enemies not right-out dying but sometimes getting carried to safety by their allies, lying on the floor half dead and using a secondary weapon to gun for you, or even wounded enough to make a retreat by themselves to a safe cover. They even react to you using a sniper rifle from the distance, seeking cover instead of searching for you out in the open. While it isn't perfect all the time, it manages to add a great layer of realism to the combat.

Speaking of realism, that's where I should point out the stealth system in this game or rather lack thereof. While stealth is technically possible, it's kept realistic. Meaning it's significantly harder to remain undetected. Melee kills will alert enemies just like killing them with silenced weapons while other enemies are nearby. And while I was able to stealth some missions, it is not too reliable.

This is also where the world-building and environment, either by choice or incompetence by the developers, becomes a hindrance. Enemies are difficult to spot in a lot of the jungle areas due to the plant life obscuring most of your vision. The gear that enemies wear also allows them to blend well into their respective surroundings. I'm not confident whether this was deliberate, but regardless, it becomes pretty annoying when you're getting gunned down and can't tell where it's coming from.

Even though the missions are repetitive, I didn't have a problem with it. The biggest grudge is how a large portion of the game is just traveling around from location to location. This is where a particular design choice of the developers gets a mixed reception from me. Outposts in this game are never liberated, meaning enemies will respawn all the time. Since I was playing on the hardest difficulty, I was forced to either kill my way through the same outposts multiple times, sneak around them, or risk driving through them. It certainly contributes to the unforgiving nature of the game, adding some objectives in the form of obstacles in your way. On the other hand, I grew tired of it by the end as I couldn't be bothered to engage in several combat encounters just to reach my destination.

One persistent issue did knock me out of the game's immersion, however. A lot of the mission characters will crazily jitter around. I don't know why this jank exists, but seeing an NPC teleport around and shake their head as I interact with them ruins that dead-serious tone this game tries to create. These were most prominent when accepting optional missions from your buddies. On that note, I would like to point out how these alternative ways of finishing missions aren't too worthwhile and just serve to stretch the length of the game.

The story wasn't too engaging for me as the world was. You're just a mercenary playing both sides of a conflict. 'The Jackal' was the only major narrative highlight for me personally, despite the limited screentime. Even though I didn't bother engaging with my buddies after the first act, I still felt that lingering connection towards them at the end. I'm giving too much credit here, but giving you the active choice of killing the only people who helped you out throughout the game to strive for the greater good was a clever dilemma woven into the narrative.

It should have remained a DLC as opposed to a standalone game. Strange decision aside, this game is mediocre. But the main reason I'm giving this a negative review is the blatant racism in this game. How come all the slaves are depicted as black people? I understand that Ubisoft was not too concerned with political correctness back then, but this is unarguably on the opposite extreme. How anybody can excuse let alone look past this is mind-boggling to me. Ubisoft, please consider issuing a public apology because this game is sending a dishearteningly wrong message.

I'm going to ignore the fanbase that converted this whole game into a religion of some sort. As I was playing it, one recurring thought crossed my mind: "So that's where that soundtrack is from!" Many videos that I've watched on YouTube have used at least one soundtrack from this game as background noise. I feel as if I've solved several mysteries by finally playing it for myself.

What sold Undertale for me is the emotional rollercoasters that is the story. It's not the plot persay but how it manages to trigger a vast array of feelings. Early on it won me over with its humour. While I never chuckled out loud at the comedy, it still made my smirk. There is a lot of well-executed meta-humour present throughout the game. The unique gameplay mechanic that is the combat system would have me fully engaged and sometimes tense up.

The first time I finished the game, killing every major character in the process, the game made me feel genuinely awful. What followed was dread and hopelessness as I encountered the grotesque final boss. I'm definitely giving too much credit here, but the visuals, the music, the narration all accumulated in one frightful ending.

Following that, I felt compelled enough to start a new game and strive for the pacifist ending, hoping to correct my mistakes in this second playthrough. If this had been any other game, I would have just opened YouTube and watched the other endings for myself. But something about seeing the charming characters perish one after the other and the game turning a cold shoulder towards me kept me enticed to do better.

I don't regret playing through the whole thing again, as I quickly grasped how much content I had robbed of myself by being a genocidal maniac. In the end, I was grateful to have gone through with it, as this game still had some aces up its sleeve, both in terms of gameplay and plot. Achieving that happy ending after my disastrous first run truly cured that depressive state of mind that had lingered on me.

I know, I sound like I'm giving Undertale a reach-around here and am likely on par with most of the deranged fanbase. I won't deny that it's overhyped. While I wouldn't deem it something groundbreaking, it's still an experience worth making.

I was going to call this game Portal for the mentally handicapped but that would be a compliment. This game is an utter disaster. Runs poorly even on the lowest possible settings, later puzzles weren't optimized whatsoever, and to top it all of you got bugs and technical issues. The icing on the cake? They dare to implement achievements such as speedrunning the whole game or beating it without dying once. It should come to nobody's surprise that only 10% of all players even managed to finish the game.
