I have not had this much fun in so long. Cannot recommend this game, and democracy, enough.

A game that still remains incredibly fun to pick up and play, with great characters, setting, and actual people on the game-development side that seem to care about what they're doing.

A game with the worst scam of a monetization scheme I've ever seen, one that would make any East Asian mobile dev blush with how brazen and soulless it is. A monetization scheme pushed by one of the worst publishers in the industry, a true corporate Ship of Theseus coasting off the name of a developer that was historically considered one of the best.

I've played consistently since launch, and I have less desire to play it than I did when the dev cycle was dead to make "Overwatch 2". The racketeering operation Blizzard has created here just feels that gross, and feels so gross that people should stay clear of it.

PS to Aaron Keller in his latest "dev update": while there is obviously a review bomb happening, thats *not* why your game sits at its current score. People like me who care about this game, probably have hundreds or thousands of hours in, and know perfectly well it could be way better are your absolute biggest detractors here. "Review bombs arent fun" is whiny at worst when your only haters are outside the club, but its straight contemptuous when the large bulk of it is legit criticism. Fix your sh*t, brother.

Updated review with more time put in, I dont usually do them but Im very passionate about what this game can be and the devs seem to be on the right track so far.

I recommend this game with a giant disclaimer that its definitely an early access product. The UI in particular needs a ton of refining, and lots of systems need streamlining and refining. I love that this game embraces complexity and hard sci-fi, but this can be done better with a lot of the fat trimmed down.

Its a pretty complete experience out of the box as is right now, hindered by the extensive learning curve. This exists mostly at the hands of feature bloat (see: the tech tree) and a tutorial that, by 4X tradition, totally sucks. It's still worth picking up if you want a slower, more complex game to learn.
