Each time you release even the smallest update (today's was 68MB) it takes anywhere between 20-60 minutes to patch it. I've never had this with any other game on Steam and seems to be consistently only happening with Helldivers 2. Each time this happens it makes me less and less inclined to update the game because uninstalling and redownloading the entire game is faster than letting it patch 60MB.

I don't play the game as much anymore so I'm uninstalling it until something changes there, sick of reinstalling the game to skip the obnoxiously slow patch times.

I have never felt so emotionally elevated and devastated in such a short period of time.

Bought this because I heard the developer was harassed and I wanted to see what was so terrible about the game.

The brother/sister dynamic is warped here, that's it. I understand that there is an ending in which its taken in a full incest direction but if you've not been paying attention to how these characters interact with each other in the hours leading up to that moment then you might've missed that these are not good people.

Their relationship is terrible, they have no regard for how others feel and only suffer a guilty conscience for maybe 20 seconds before moving on. The ending that caused so much backlash appears to be a cautionary one since (from what I've seen so far) none of the premonitions or dream sequences are meant to be indicative of a "good" ending.

What you essentially have here is a nicely done game with some disturbed characters and sequences. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not, there are definitely people out there who will feel sickened while playing this, but that's why we vote with our wallets and avoid media we don't like instead of trying to crush it.

The story is engaging with a bit of intrigue as to why these characters are in the position they're in, the soundtrack is a mix of memorable and downright eerie songs, the characters themselves are written well enough even though to some it may come across as cringe worthy or just weird. Gameplay is simple, walk in any direction and push enter. Job done.

Best way I can put it would be to say it's a charming game about some seriously disturbed people that does a good job at selling how horrible, depraved and broken they are. Worth a buy if you're into darker stories and not too squeamish.

Edit upon completion:
I was midway through the second chapter when I sent this review, but after completing it fully I can say I stand by what I said. It's not for everyone, this is a game about some terrible people with warped and uncomfortable topics that become more prevalent as the game goes on, as long as you keep in the back of your mind that this is just a game you will be fine. Took around 3 hours to finish and I look forward to seeing where the story goes next in Chapter 3.

Honked a clown horn at the big monster but forgot about the dogs.

Total team wipe. Families destroyed. Lives broken. Scrap not collected.

Taken by surprise by this, even more surprised at how much I enjoyed the experience.

What you have here is a game with catchy music, great art and backgrounds, a fun little gameplay loop and a story written by a group of people who must really love their jobs. Pleasure from start to finish, charming story with a satisfying finale. Would happily pay money for a full blown game like this, make it happen Sega.

This game has some notorious pop-in and clearly needed just a little bit more time in the oven to truly complete the experience. By the tail end of the game, you can see the cracks as they become obvious.

That being said, I recommend this game because it made me smile. It's nothing ground-breaking, but it was enough to make me feel that warmth that Sonic games used to give me. The characters are much better written here, the music is interesting if a little grating at times and the game is locked to 60 but I can't say I've had any noticeable drops.

Voice performances are complimented heavily by the tone set in the writing. If you're not aware of the massive debate around Sonic voice actors, you either love Roger Craig Smith's take, or you hate it. Truthfully, I've never been a fan until now. The voice used for Sonic is jarring at first, but you quickly forget about it after a few cutscenes.

Would I say this game is worth paying £49.99? No, I can't say it warrants that price. However, £39.99 or lower makes this a good deal, and some stores are currently selling it physically for £29.99 for Black Friday sales. If you want a decent length game with a bit of bang for your buck, at that price this is worth checking out.

Simply put, it drowns in mediocrity. It's a crying shame as this is one of the few titles from 343 that had an ounce of promise. Credit where it is due, the game looks decent and seems to run well but pretty graphics can't make up for a lack of engaging content.

The store is still a massive rip off, progression feels sluggish even after several updates and key modes from previous games in the series are only now making their way to Infinite. It's not good enough.

Most of the plans had for this game have seemingly been abandoned, such as the seasonal narratives which usually consist of some vapid cutscenes featuring characters nobody has known long enough to care about.

Finding games is not hard as of 07/2023 but the majority of the population have clearly moved on.

Honestly, if you're interested in trying the game then go for it...it's free. But this is not the place to be if you want engaging regular content drops, fun progression and servers filled with the precious lifeblood that are players.

Message from me regarding Games for Windows Live.

Do your jobs, do what you said you would do and fix this issue. The game many people paid for is literally unplayable thanks to an implemented feature that nobody wanted but you forced. Fix it or give me one hell of a delayed refund.
