It's a disappointing and lacking game, even by Compile Heart standards.

  • Story feels rushed, even if the general idea is interesting
  • Despite the slightly different battle system, it still uses the same Compile Heart game design that prefers sheer power over strategy, combined with difficulty spikes regardless of the in-game setting
  • Every chapter follows the same, repetitive format - dungeon opens up, kill the boss, cutscenes, chapter ends, repeat.
  • Still reuses assets from previous CH games - things like presentation, camera animations/cues, transitional effects, dungeon mechanics, etc. Yes the character models/level design is all new, as are the monsters, but it feels like yet another Compile Heart game through and through.
  • Has the least amount of English voice acting in any IF/CH game that has it. Seriously, there's long stretches of the game that doesn't have voice acting, then suddenly a scene WITH voice acting occurs, then it's back to silence.
  • And of course it has the usual symptoms of being an IFI PC port - visual glitches, poor 4K scaling on the 2D artwork (including the CGs), resolution options that don't affect full screen, barely any graphics options (and the few that are there are just on/off toggles), etc.

It's a well-optimized beautiful big boy adventure. What else could I ask for? Girls?

If you've ever once considered yourself a Sonic (or hell, even Sega) fan at any point in your life, and you're playing any of the newer Sonic games (after Generations), PUT THAT ♥♥♥♥ DOWN and come play this. No, seriously. It's not just a Sonic clone - it combines elements of many classic platformers, like Sonic, Ristar, and even Gunstar Heroes.

I love.....just about everything about this game. Yes, that includes the voice acting, which IMHO is the best I've ever heard out of an indie game, at least in a long while. And the graphics? They're.....a treat, especially if you love retro 2D platformers/games and/or the classic Sonic games (on the Mega Drive/Genesis).

Well? What are you waiting for? Stop reading this review and go buy it already!! ....Unless you're on Mac, in which case you'll have to buy the game outside of Steam (a Mac version exists, but is not on Steam).
