I tried to do Tier 3 Bar Room Blitz, and then kill the remaining dudes. Emphasis on "tried"

I was very excited to play this game when I saw it on Steam, simply because a big part of my childhood was watching the show. I was disappointed that this version is a collection of mini-games with a lack of cohesion, rather than the kind of sandbox science simulator I would prefer to see from the brand.

The blueprint mini-games are repetitive and don't connect to the main myths being tested. The myths themselves are adapted from the original run of the show, but distilled to a single experiment, where the results themselves aren't analyzed in any meaningful way. The process of preparing for a test boils down to following the instructions in your notebook and using the machines in the shop to perform more mini-games (reaction-time, assembly/disassembly, etc.). The testing itself is just another mini-game (if you're lucky) or a whole lot of nothing. I suppose the explosions are cooler when they're hand-crafted rather than computer-generated.

The most bizarre thing about this game is that most of its simulation elements are regarding the assembly of the show itself? You're managing a budget for buying your materials (where waste is common if you're bad at the mini-games), gaining XP for a very needless skill system centered on making the mini-games easier or provide higher benefits, and then cutting together a show using generic cards that have nothing to do with the actual myths and more to do with managing money and a fan base. This isn't to say that it's hard: by the time I finished the second myth, I had enough leftover cards to make an episode to gain money, fans, and XP, without featuring a single myth. I guess one might call that a clip show?

All in all, it's a boring adaptation of Mythbusters, and fans of the show should know what they're buying before getting this game, even if it's on sale.
