Old: A Pretty good Sailing game best bought at a discounted price, best played with friends, and best played when sober. This game's historical accuracy is an impressive feat, not that it is totally accurate but with most of the aspects captured help add a historical sense of how sailing was at that time but with other aspects that keep the game a "game" and also enjoyable like for example sailing takes 90 percent less time than it would in real life. (Still sometimes sailing can take up to an entire day).

Combat is another one of those aspects that are historically accurate only that it lacks the practicality of how firing a rank of guns was at the time meaning it's like a shooter game where you have to move around considering wind direction and speed plus the size of the waves, making aiming a very hard and bloody business for low level players. To fix that problem, either there must be a first lieutenant to take control of a ship or a gunner to autopilot the guns while the captain is manning the wheel. But this also leads us to another topic; "game updates" the developers are making slow work on their game unfortunately and when it comes to community freedom of speech, their ban hammer gets itchy towards everyone who dares question their will. Be it a positive feedback with a suggestion to improve or a negative feedback against a silly game feature that needs to be fixed no matter. All that matters is that You Will Get Banned.

With all that said, keep a clean record, buy low, prosper and enjoy every moment of your game.

NEW: Apparently the game seems to have taken a bad course towards a more MMO genre rather than simulation with extreme farming mechanics and specifically hysterical farming events and on the other hand strange new ship upgrades that boost or lower a ship's abilities in magical unexpected ways making it more arcade and unenjoyable. To say the least this game is finally getting way worse after 1 year of my first review and now only taking the course downwards. I would not recommend it anymore.

-UPDATE; Seemingly after my recent review the game has seen many server malfunctions and instant server closures probably because of the new spy engine integration that most games use nowadays (I.E. redshell). Anyhow, the developers choose to recompensate players for certain inaccessibility by more farming events of gamebreaking magical components (like cannon-proof woods), knowing that many players already own alternate accounts on which they can get double even triple the loot a normal consumer/user would by playing normally (meaning particular people having more of an advantage over others just because they bought another copy of the game on discount on another steam account). That instead of releasing newer historically accurate content for the game as suggested by the more professional and non farming community to make it more enjoyable as a sailing game should be for enthusiasts and hobby'ists alike.
